  1. The Byrds' song "Mind Gardens" (Crosby tune, on Younger Than Yesterday) is chock-full of backwards guitar. One of the trippiest things I've ever heard.
  2. Ahhh yes....those WERE good times, weren't they? Jay Bennett burning a fatty on the roof of JC's White House...
  3. End of thread. No one is gonna top this for sheer disappointment.
  4. The real shame is that Gilmour and Co. were able to call it "Pink Floyd".
  5. Ok, I'll try again - in no order (except the first one ) Grateful Dead Zappa Miles Phish David Nelson Band Crimson ELP Yes Bowie John McLaughlin (w/ Trelok Gurtu) Return To Forever Jeff Beck Nels Cline Singers Allmans String Cheese Incident The Who Wilco Neil Young - you pick which backup band - I love em all Rush Sabbath (Black & Blue Tour '80 - best metal show ever, imo)
  6. I love the RHCP, especially in the Hillel period, but man they had some really suckass openers for them on the tours I saw. '86 - Thelonious Monster - with a doubt the most unprofessional piece of shit band I ever saw for money. seriously, me and my alcoholic friends in the garage late on a Saturday night sound more together than these dudes did. '88 - Faith No More - the singer was so drunk he just berated the crowd most of the night, and eventually got so pissed he left the stage. Thank god they finished up with a near letter-perfect take of "War Pigs" or it would have been a total loss.
  7. Substitute David Nelson Band for Ween and you have my list. also: King Crimson, ELP, Yes, Bowie, John McLaughlin, Return To Forever, Jeff Beck...and I can't forget the Nels Cline Singers. Can we make this a top 20? I got a whole lot more to mention!
  8. I'm gonna try not to rant here. But....why can't folks just roll themselves a few fatties, slip that tab in their pocket, whatever, before the show? Christ, you have 3 MONTHS to plan for this run...you've made road trip plans, you've got the hotel room booked - get yourself ORGANIZED fer Chrissakes! I'm gonna stop right there.
  9. Yeah. Well, the Prez said we shouldn't be stuffing our mattresses with the hard-earned. But, I didn't drink the kool-aid, so why should I listen to him?
  10. I joined this board about 3 years and a month or two ago, after lurking for awhile. At the time I joined I was in a pretty 'rabid fan' phase - now it's a part of my regular interwebs routine, like checking the emails, etc...I just log on, almost unconciously. What I get out of the board runs a pretty large spectrum - there are a number of folks that regularly give me HUGE laughs, some that give me insight and a different perspective than my own, and, on occasion, some that actually steer me away from my Dead-related obsessions into new music. I blame our friend Basil II for getting me h
  11. WW, Poca and I wish only the best for you - and we're quite sure you'll land on your feet.
  12. Grateful Dead. On any long drive, at any time of the day or night. Grateful Dead. Sorry that I can't be more help.
  13. I'm glad Lemieux mentioned "Wave To The Wind" somewhat favorably. I always thought the song had potential, and there are a few versions out there that are quite good. Shame they didn't continue to keep it in the rotation.
  14. Nice save at the end there!
  15. So true. I remember Conan when he first started - I thought "God, this is the personification of lame"....but eventually he became the funniest of them all, imo.
  16. 3/9/81 Madison Square Garden, NY NY I: Stranger, Althea > CC Rider, Ramble On > El Paso, Deep Elem, BIODTL, Bird Song, Minglewood '81 was a really strong year all the way through, and this first set is one of my favorites from the Spring tour. Essential listening.
