  1. My God, IALR - this is AWESOME! I'm really wishing I was closer to Memphis right now, I'd be all over this. Hope you kill em. If there's tape running it would be great if you could link us up on the VC.
  2. Man, I loves me some Fatha - one of the most bad-ass pianists of Jazz's first 50 years, yes?
  3. Aman, I'm on record as saying that I've never met a Sugaree I don't like, and '77 is THE year for that tune - there's a lot of the best ones from then. This one is fantastic, but I'd give the nod to 5/22 (DP #3), and 3/18 - maybe a tie with 5/19. Other really fantastic ones: 10/17/83 12/28/79 8/7/82 12/31/85 11/24/78 Can't go wrong with any of those.
  4. My picks: 1) IATTBYH 2) Hell Is Chrome 3) Radio Cure 4) War On War 5) Jesus, Etc. 6) Ashes 7) Wishful Thinking 8) Hate It Here 9) PKB 10) Poor Places 11) Reservations 12) Late Greats Wow - it's too obvious what my priorities are....but then again YHF towers over the other two records imo. A much tougher choice would be a YHF/ST/BT challenge.
  5. So, I finally busted out the newest road trips (Sep. '90 - MSG). What an astounding set - disc 2 in particular is just amazing. But here's my rant: wtf is with the sound quality during that time? The DP #9 from the same time period suffers the same thing - Vince is so far out in front of the mix with some really 'cheesy' synth sounds that he drowns out nearly everything else. It certainly didn't sound that way in the room. Bill & Mick's drums are a flat "thud". Weir is almost non-existent with rhythm - you get the occasional strange lines in the upper register but little else. Phil is real
  6. When you look around you just don't see anyone who could rejuvinate the republicans. Palin? Please....she is truly a joke - a bad one. Eric Cantor? he should have "weasel" tattoed on his forehead. Jindal? I was thinking he might be the guy until his disastrous 'response' on Tuesday. Someone has to appear with real ideas, and i'm sure someone will. But who?
  7. It seems to me that the Right has this very small patch of land to stand on right now - the only thing they can still sell is : 1) fear, and 2) no new taxes of any kind. They're bankrupt.
  8. I once went back to rekindle an old flame after 10 years. Let me tell you, that was an unmitigated disaster! I think it might have been more painful the second time around.
  9. Ahhh, my brother....if we don't get to a one-world socialism how can we ever get to the 'rapture'?
  10. 2/27/69 - Fillmore West.... It's hard to believe...40 YEARS ago today - the recording of the song that launched a million journeys. I'd be interested in any of you sharing your first experience with the Live Dead version of Dark Star - I did have a real schweeet blahg all typed out about this last night, then a vicious thunderstorm knocked me offline and now I can't retrieve it (computer illiterate ). Maybe I'll try again later.
  11. Send Lammy a PM - or Moe. My guess is those cats might be there. If you've never seen em I'd say go.
  12. That's gonna be an awesome read. As popular as the band has been, they still haven't got a whole hell of a lot of scutiny in book form. I can't wait.
  13. I was thinkin it was Lightnin Hopkins - but Pig coulda just thrown those lines in.
  14. It is a brave thing you are doing, Doctor B. We wish you only the best, and look forward to seeing you here again soon - happy and healthy. Best, MB & Poca
  15. Have you ever heard Humble Pie's version of that from "Live at the Fillmore"? 25 minutes long - really great jamming by Frampton (no kidding).
  16. If this stat doesn't alarm you, then I don't know what would : beer sales fell 14% in the last quarter. BEER, people! This is catastrophic - but I guess if you live on the street due to foreclosure it's hard to sit on a couch and quaff a sixer.
  17. I think the first thing that needs to be done is to put defense in the actual budget. This constant "emergency funding" that comes up is a thinly veiled excuse for no oversight and unlimited cash layout. And I am well aware of the necessity of defense, but it just seems to be so far out of proportion to other pressing concerns.
  18. I'll respectfully disagree with you, orange. We already spend more on defense than every other country in the world combined - and it's been that way since WWII. Not to mention that the defense industry has been the source of more waste and graft than one can imagine. There's at least 50 BILLION dollars that has just disappeared in Iraq....50 billion, man. That would have paid for SCHIP completely and had a good 10-15 billion left over. Just for an example.
  19. Matt, quit your whining and go throw on a '73 Dark Star and call me in the morning. Your welcome.
  20. It's really kinda hard to pick out uniformly strong p/h shows (beginning to end) but there were a number of great moments - I remember the Cincinnati Gin, the Nassau Tweezer you mentioned, the Chicago Simple - all very interesting to my ears. The Greensboro show on 3/1 was pretty strong throughout. And of course the last Deer Creek show (with DWD, Timber - probably my favorite cover they do - and the Antelope and Wedge, and COIL ) holds a special place in my heart. Like I said before, when Summer rolls around I hope to see some of you on the DC lawn.
