Why are you self-imposing punishment on yourself? There are whole-show nuggets from every year of GD history, even '95. '83 is a kick-ass year. The SPAC show alone can not be ignored (possibly the best 'Dew ever).

I couldn't stop going, regardless. There were plenty of gems of shows in the 90s, just less frequent. I stopped travelling (for the most part) long distances to see them, but still had to catch them if they were around me.

Ray Manzarek wouldn't have been worthy enough to have carried Benny Goodman's jock strap. Mainly because Benny Goodman likely didn't wear one, but you catch my drift. Wouldn't have been worthy of carrying his clarinet reed, maybe.

Not to be a contrarian, but I thought he looked like hell the last 2 yrs of the band. He looked well beyond his actual early 50s. He also started using the Teleprompter at the end. The vocals could be really rough, too, but there were exceptions ("Visions" from Philly, for example).

Wish there was a pic, but Taj Mahal played bass for a very short stint in '74 in a J Garcia band configuration (Great American String Band, that also featured David Grisman). I've never seen a pic, but if anyone has a pic I'd love to see it.

Curt Kirkwood plays that green Strat pretty often, actually. The Les Paul is his main guitar but the Start gets a lot of use, too.
