  1. Man, I started re-listening to this a few months back after, like, a 15 yr absence. it really is an excellent album (love most of the collaborations). "Against the 70s" is amazing...
  2. GDradio is playing the 10.30.71 Cincinnati show with the dude yelling for Truckin' all the time and Garcia admonishing him about "...gotta be a cop...?" and Weir talking about people getting ready to drop a whole load of live chickens on the people under the balcony....
  3. Of course he is!! I missed the Denver Watt/MPs show (school night) but have seen Watt a couple times in other outfits (Banyan with Nels Cline and Stephen Perkins being most memorable). I've read good reviews of his opening set with the Jom & Terry Show (Jazzy/Funky/Punk-y). You don't get a lot of opportunities to see a bassist of Watt's caliber (and vocals, too!). Take it, if you can.
  4. It's also National Mediterranean Diet Month, as well as National Salad Month....
  5. Speaking of animated Jerry (we have lift-off on the last note)....(the whole show, particularly 2nd set, has Garcia utterly rocking out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eViobWoVLJo
  6. Pretty good take. Here's a pretty ridiculous Terp. (this part cuts to the chase) I caught in Hampton in '87. The place was roaring at the "gettin' down" of Garcia in this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQRcVBF8wQc
  7. Cool. Comparably, my wife won Neil Diamond tix for Denver in July.
  8. Went to a festival yesterday where the Jeff Austn (formerly of YMSB) Band headlined. He did a really nice "Screen Door" with another tune sandwiched between it.
  9. This should read 3/20/70, not 3.2.70. The comments come after Rider and before Hard to Handle....
  10. Good album. The "Stella Blue" works well on it, too.
  11. Side note: Has anyone seen (heard, live) Neal Casal's Circles Around the Sun in concert. They're coming to Denver next month and thinking about going. I'm wondering if it's pretty much all improv, a la the stuff they did for the GF 50 pre/post and intermissions music.
  12. We re-watched Season 2 (Better Call Saul) a couple seasons ago and started Season 3 last night (watched Ep. 1 on some pay site, but Ep. 2 is all fucked up with the recording stating with 11 min left). I'm liking where it's all headed since the end of Season 2....
  13. "See, our main ambition in life aside from growing a bosom on top of our heads is to die on stage and when we die on stage that will be when we ultimately reach Grease. People are scared of us around here and they don’t let us play much. What they’re really afraid of is that, if they listen, they’ll find out that they’re really as much of what we’re playing about as we are. We try to be as honest as possible. It’s complete sincerity. There’s no put-on, no stage act." -Col. Bruce Hampton
  14. Slightly off-topic, but thought I'd toss this out to those who are into the psychedelic Art Rock poster stuff. Dave Hunter passed away Sunday. from brain cancer (diagnosed last Fall). The short film was directed by Jay Blakesberg and touches on Dav'e influences and his being the resident artist for Moonalice posted: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Q3KXcRog2g
  15. No doubt. At the end of the encore after a massive honorary 70th Bday show surrounded by music and good friends??!!
  16. I was able to watch the Red Sox (i used to get the MLB Extra Innings package but haven't in about 6-8 yrs) every day/night since last Wed, including the Os/BOS game last night. It was great. The only time I turned the volume down was Joe Buck covering the Sunday night game, but yeah, tunes on with volume off on a ball game is sweet.
  17. Besides an overall solid show (nice Bertha opener and a very nice Jack Straw closer in 1st set), the Take a Step Back is worth a listen. Weir had asked earlier for people to move back to no avail and has gotta a little....testy: Carrier Dome, Syracuse, NY 10.20.84 https://archive.org/details/gd84-10-20.sbd.mattman.15673.sbeok.shnf
  18. They make nice coat hangers, too.
  19. Caught JRAD on Sat. night (show was moved from Red Rocks to an indoor venue, First Bank Center, due to rough weather). Holy smokes if they still aren't the hottest outfit going. Medeski, Martin, Wood opened which was superb, too. Here's a link to arcticle and the audio (and some video) of the show to any interested: http://liveforlivemusic.com/reviews/joe-russo-almost-dead-1st-bank/
  20. I think Rich's recent album is really good....
  21. Yeah, the live stuff is where it's at. I have the last Betty Board release and it's enjoyable.
  22. I'm not sure I understand why interviewers would be concerned about either Chris (who likely made 2x as much as Rich in The Crowes) or Rich and their finances? Because they both head toned-down bands that play in clubs? Are you talking about the last CRB album? I wasn't crazy about it either.
  23. How can Rich afford to pay his band members? His manager(s) pay(s) them through the clubs/promoters, no? I doubt they're losing money or they wouldn't be on the road. Plus, the guy is a multi-millionaire.
