  1. Cabrera deal actually for about $140 M/7 yr. after the buy-out, so essentially at $20 M/per after this year (slightly different then originally reported): http://blog.mlive.com/tigersinsider/2008/0...s_actually.html
  2. What's unreasonable about wanting to see Tweedy sit in? 3. No worries. DET OF Granderson goes on DL and will miss roughly first week of season with broken finger: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...sp&c_id=mlb
  4. Not sure how you read that(bold) from any of my posts. I didn't even hint towards that. While he's no more or less likely to be injured than any other player, I can see why Cabrera would want to ink a hefty deal now instead of waiting another year, is all. And, that it seemed a bit high but mostly in line with what a player like him commands these days. He could have waited and probably gotten more $ but I'd imagine variables such as injury and/or the going rate (possibly going down in a year) had an impact on him signing a long term contract now.
  5. ? Point being that it's par for the course for a player like him at his age right now. He probably could have gotten more had he waited for his contract to lapse but there's always the possibility of injury and or under performing by then.
  6. Light entertainment. A lot of the stories are rehashed tales that have been told. Still a decent peak through Phil's eyes, I thought. Got Phil to sign my copy when it came out so there's that....
  7. Less than two days until the first game/Opening Day. Another solid piece by Gordon Edes in today's Globe on Francona and how he's perceived/role of manager: http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/reds..._thrive/?page=1
  8. That's how I take it, too. Isn't RA referring to the writer who slammed him pretty hard a few years ago and there was that phone call RA left on the guy's answering machine responding to the guy's criticisms that was circulating for a bit? I may be way off on this though. Especially if the guy's name wasn't "John." Either way, doesn't look/sound like a slam on Wilco at all to me. And even it were so what, right?
  9. Seems a little high to me, but not too far north in today's market. After the 1 year of arbitration buy-out (a little over $11 M) it's basically 7 years/$19 M per year. I wouldn't go so far as to call it a bargain though. Although in comparison to Arod's contract maybe a case could be made that it is a bargain.
  10. DET reaches a preliminary agreement with 3B Miguel Cabrera on an 8-year/$153.3 M contract extension: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3307289

  12. If the file's too big and you can't do torrents, try that second link I put up, click on "Shows," and scroll down to the date.
  13. A bunch of shows at the Stone Church and various other small joints in NH and VT. Amy Skelton was tight with them and used to toss me and a cabal of freaks in the back of her truck and haul us to shows. I remember one show in particular at like a restaurant/bar that had them on a snowy winter night (lower VT, I think) and it was just the 7-8 of us and another freak there who twirled around a pole the whole night. I believe about half our party got kicked out of the place for being too drunk that night.
  14. That is fantastic. I love these: Under the title: "WILLIE MAYS COMPLETELY NUDE FROM WASTE DOWN" And really, the entire description is gold (I added bold print to my favorite parts): "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a professional vintage negative, with rights, featuring San Francisco Giants great Willie Mays NUDE from the waste down. That
  15. I used to catch 'em in the bars in NH in the late 80s, too. Fun times. I also dated a chick for 7 years with the last name Wilson. I've used the tune in a similar manner as described above.
  16. This should work: (they're mp3 downloads. Torrents are avail. through the usuual sources i'd imagine) http://www.sendspace.com/file/8joh59 or listen first here: http://www.phishows.com/
  17. W. VA is looking to screw this deal up for a lot of folks.
  18. Ortiz smacked a HR last night (today) in the Tokyo Dome that came close to the one hit in 2004: http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/reds..._in_boston_win/ Ortiz' 514-foot HR in the Tokyo Dome (2004): http://alphaii.blogspot.com/2007/09/david-...tokyo-dome.html
  19. A very good band from out here (Polytoxic) plays the entire Last Waltz every year as a fundraiser for Parkinson's disease at Thanksgiving time. Always a good time.
  20. Just finished this: A decent read about a guy (I actually hung out with him briefly at a Dead show in the late 80s in Atlanta, apparently) who climbed the ladder of Republican campaign insiders. He had no particular devotion to the Republicans besides making money and climbing the ladder to power and inevitably wound up as one of Rove's underlings. He was charged with helping to jam phone lines on election day in New Hampshire in 2000 and did time in Federal prison. He names names and talks in detail about the seamy underbelly of playing dirty in elections. Now waiting on some
  21. Hm. Is the rest of the album far off from that track? Will the tunes with Ed and Marc be available at any point? I'd assume not officially.
  22. That was it. A nice lilting rock vibe to it.
  23. They were on Leno last night. I liked the tune they did quite a bit. It's the first I've heard off the new album and I like how it fits in nicely with some of their earlier sounds. I'll have to pick Warpaint up, I think.
