If someone's bumping/kicking my seat on purpose there'll be problems. I'm conscious of people behind me but it's not my fault you're too big for the plane. Take it up with the airlines/stewardess. Or, ask me politely to move the seat up a bit and explain yourself and I'll gladly oblige.

I usually look behind me first to give the person a head's up if I'm going to kick back. I don't think it's rude but I know a lot of people do. I don't know why. They recline so you can recline. I also get pissed when the person in front of me does it, though.

I listened to Magic Time for the first time in a while today and for the most part you could spread most of the tunes onto any of his early 70s albums and you wouldn't know the difference in age.

VM's voice is still fantastic, imo. His last two albums (Pay the Devil and Magic Time) speak for this. Pay the Devil has some rough edges to his normally smooth-as-silk voice but it's basically an album of County classics. I think he's singing up to that on the album. Both albums received good reviews, if I remember. Both the albums I mentioned came out within the last 2-3 years, too. He played up at Red Rocks last summer to great reviews, as well. I'd think doing two songs (separated by a lengthy break, too) has to affect the performance a bit. When you're given a time allotment I'd imagine it detracts from the spontaneity/vibe of a tune a bit, too. I agree that they weren't stand-out versions of either tune and that they were merely pleasantly done. Nothing wrong with that, though. Ah. I'm surprised they're not streaming more of the album since it's coming out on Tues. I'm a little disappointed to hear the crummy takes on it so far. It's been a while and I was looking forward to a batch of good new tunes.

When stating it was the "best version" of course there are comparisons. They've been playing the tune live for 14 years or so. Even if just comparing the tune within the current line up (which has been together long enough to see the tune varied from tour-tour/year-year, even if slightly) a case can be made. Even if it's a slight case.

Since 2004 I see Sox gear/hats a lot out here. Before 2004 not so much, but plenty. Regardless, I think it's great to have Hank around spouting loony shit like his old man used to. Makes it interesting.
