I think one problem with media, in general, comes with the immediacy and availability of the internet. There are so many sources capable of breaking new/updated accounts that it seems like a mad scramble to put out details that may inevitably have been better left out. Yet competition for ratings feeds the greater need for urgency. There's been more competition for ratings in the last 15-20 years then previously (before the internet really came into the picture as a heavy-hitter). It seems like the mind-set is to get every detail out to the public before the next person/site/station scoops i -
I think cortisone is classified as a steroid, but I'm not sure. Though it's not on the MLB banned substance list and is administered by a doctor (in Schilling's case, at least) at the approval of MLB.

I'm not getting the LBJ love. I bet the man never made a batch of chili in his life. He looks too coddled. And angry. I picture him getting 5 minutes into firing a batch up and then roundhousing the pot off the stove because Lady Bird forgot to buy him the appropriately-sized bell peppers he demanded.

That would be good for the team/city. Looks like it's projected for opening in 2011 if/when it goes through.

BOS has a few possibilities for the one or two roster spots left for 12 pitchers. Tavarez, Snyder, and Bucholz competing for the fifth-starter spot, and likely Kyle Snyder and Javier Lopez competing for the last bullpen slot: http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/reds..._may_be_penned/

Trot Nixon "auditions" for ARI, trying to land a job. Other OFs still looking for a team include Kenny Lofton, Corey Patterson, Shannon Stewart, Reggie Sanders, Sammy Sosa and Barry Bonds. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/spring2008/n...tory?id=3250820

I was able to lay in bed and listen to meditational/New Age shit this morning for a spell, which is always enjoyable. As it's Presidents Day, I got around to thinking "which President would win in the 'Best Overall' category for a chili cook-off?" Following is a bit winded, but bear with me: At first, I was thinking Teddy Roosevelt or U.S. Grant as they were hard as nails kinds of guys. Then I thought that they probably had more important things to do, like fighting in battles and kicking dogs and stuff. I considered William Howard Taft because of his girth. Big guy, probably nailed the

I still think "Misunderstood" is just a fantastic way to kick off a show. The slow, creeping nature of it in the beginning and the building up to the frenzy at the end has the potential to set a great mood for the evening. I'd imagine it's an opportunity to get instrument adjustments out of the way, too, as it's got the wide-open noise parts to it.

Missed this. Hope you had a good one.

I would have loved to party with that chick. Seriously. My grandmother liked the Sox but loved the football. And going to the greyhound track and betting on the dogs outside of Hartford.

I have this old Irish proverb framed around a needlepoint my deceased mom made years and years ago hanging in my house.

Seems as if jcoulas merits some kudos in lieu of the needling he took here. Well played, jcoulas. Well played indeed.

Lamrod: you front the band Jagermeister? Cool. I've heard some of your work. To be honest, too much of it makes me nauseous though.

Yeah, the information regarding the study is fairly vague but it does seem similar. Unlike zone rating, however, they came up with a "probability model for the average fielder in each position" and compared players to players. I think ZR is based mostly (among other factors) on line drives/popped balls and the probability of making the play, if i understand it correctly.
