  1. I'm not suggesting this is the sole reason Stewart got the hit, just making an observation. Schilling probably shook off signs up to a dozen times yesterday and managed just fine.
  2. No. And Schilling called off Varitek's call for a first-pitch slider and went with a fast ball instead. I believe that is how Pedro's no-hitter didn't happen, as well (shaking off the called pitch from Varitek).
  3. His stepdad was a FLA fruit mogul. Lots of money. Gram also went to Harvard for a spell.
  4. I don't think anyone is suggesting it has a direct or even indirect impact on the outcome of the game (mentioning a no-hitter while it's happening). It's a fun superstition that most baseball fans get a kick out of acknowledging, respecting, and adhering to. As an event unravelling before one's ears/eyes that doesn't happen frequently it's fun for fans (me, at least) to be able to take part in the superstition in a very small way. When people mess with the tradition (even via live game threads on message boards) it takes a little away from the moment, is all. The guys on the bench and th
  5. I'd like to give it a listen sometime. When's the release date, BTW?
  6. On the Sons of Sam Horn board there's a live game thread and some bonehead mentioned the potential no-no during the game (around the 7th inning, as well). Talk about a pile-on. Some superstitions shouldn't be messed with. Yeah, it has no impact on the game (particularly via internet) but it ruins the enjoyment of the moment to an extent.
  7. The win was needed. Great outing, for sure.
  8. Yes. Jack Cust, too. And an error.
  9. I am out of school and currently watching. Get to catch the day games live now. Thanks, though!
  10. Not youtube, but nonetheless: http://a1503.v108692.c10869.g.vm.akamaistr...cted_tp_350.wmv
  11. Here's a sample. One of my favorite Freakwater tunes, "Good For Nothing": http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?acti...7B41A773E08C361
  12. They sell that around here on Sundays and after-hours.
  13. Okijima has been a huge bonus. Take note of how he pitches some time: he literally does not look at the plate but down and away at the point of release.
  14. Yes, I've been downloading each and every tune since December. Makes a great place to go to on the iPod for various great recordings/cuts.
  15. The transition stuff in '73-'74 was phenomenal (think: China->Rider, Weather Report Suite, etc.). Here Comes Sunshine back then is one of my favorites, as well.
  16. Here's a pretty detailed description of the experiment if anyone is interested. Kind of lengthy: http://dozin.com/esp/thedream.html
  17. I was just over on the site an hour ago checking that out. I've got the analogs of this run (the one being released is night #2 of four nghts). Lots of "firsts" during this run. The night here features the first "Birdsong" and the first "Deal" and they were also doing the ESP experiments during this one and 1-2 of the others. The experiment involved dreams and esp and projecting thoughts to a focus group somewhere else in NY, if I recall.
  18. These cats have been around for awhile. It's been a little bit of time since I've seen them but they're a great live band.
  19. I appreciate how the kids in th Netherlands presumably can't wait to drink legally until their 16th birthdays. Kudos to you, kids! Where were these great thinkers when I was in my early teens?
  20. I just assumed they wear non-descript, non-commercial burlap-stitched parcels of clothing. I remember when Garcia did a ditty for Levi's 501 Jeans. I thought it was a great little piece, actually.
  21. Hey, she's certainly hip in my book, too. The only reason I mention the Seegers is because you and I probably would not have ever heard of Elizabeth Cotton had someone with some "in" not brought her to the public eye. Remember, she basically quit playing guitar for about 30 years to raise her family and only until later in life did she pick it up again. She was also a pretty private and quiet woman.
