  1. If Danny Bonaducce is using any or all of his favorite substances again, it'd make for great entertainment if he was given the job. An angry and paranoid host would give it the edge that Barker lost in the last few years.
  2. This looks good. I've got a large amount of Bukowski's works and he had a weird relationship with and concept of the Beats. He didn't consider himself in that genre but some of his stuff leans heavily towards it. I like reading analyses of him and his works. Let me know if this one is worth it, please.
  3. The first thing I thought of when I read this was the new Son Volt album, which begins with the soft and lilting "Slow Hearse" and right into the horn-savvy and boppin' "The Picture." Of course, there are always exceptions I suppose. I'll go with a smarmy answer: the weightiest track on an album is the weightiest track on an album, wherever it may lie.
  4. The first think I thought of was VU, as well. I was thinking "Heroin," though.

FWIW, in the local paper it was noted that Wilco wanted to play Red Rocks instead of The Fillmore but Red Rocks was booked.
  6. The legal scalpers (oxymoron?) were offering tix to the Fillmore shows yesterday before the pre-sale even started. Lowest price I saw then was $90 per ticket. I know it is legal, but how is this any different than scalping in front of a venue (I realize the logistical part, of course)?
  7. Off the top of the head: Ashes to Ashes, Bowie I'm Beginning To See The Light, VU Slipping (Into Something), The Feelies The Night Chicago Died, Paper Lace
  8. A lot of folks have cited that Dr. Dog album. I was flat-out unimpressed with it. C'est la vie!
  9. Plus, record royalties and concert revenues don't go as far with them as with most bands being that there's like 70 guys in The Pogues.
  10. Impeccable service, I always say. Impeccable.
  11. Pics? Currently enjoying one of these, a.k.a. an "Arnold Palmer":
  12. When this all gets sorted out, I think you and me should get an apartment together.
  13. I hear in order for a VW to run efficiently you need to pump it full of $45.00/gallon Starbuck's coffee.
  14. Any time you can head up to the mountains, do so. It can get pretty baking hot in the city (not humid, per se, but just lethargic hot). I'd get a State Parks pass (around $70 I believe): Definitely head up to Rocky Mountain National park for the day (or you can camp out up there if that's your thing). Head up to Estes Park and there's an entrance to it from there. Gorgeous sites/views, lots of wildlife, and better temperatures. Mt. Evans is a nice drive, too. Accessible through Idaho Springs area. Cherry Creek State Park is nice for the day, too. A decent place to swim/boat and it's
  15. I could have sworn this was being discussed in another thread you started, Ghosts.
  16. Wow. I guess it is mandated. Although with a last name like Ratzenberger, I suppose it was inevitable he'd land a part in a movie about a rat.
  17. I believe it's still two tickets though they might do a thing where they give you one ticket and you exchange it for a non-removable wrist band. I hope the first option is the way they do it. I do know that The Fillmore does this often, though. I've already seen tix on legal scalping sites (an oxymoron if there ever was one) being offered from $98-200 per night. WTF? I did tell o-man that generally tix are not too hard to get for the Fillmore as people tend to not jump all over them on the first offering. It holds about 3,000 and they'll most likely hold back a certain amount for the publi
  18. I look forward to these, especially in the summer. It's a nice opportunity to get out of the heat with the kids and these types of flicks are usually well done. It's gotten good reviews, so I'll probably end up seeing it. One thing, though. Doesn't it seem like there is a limited stock of actors to provide voices for these animated movies? Is it mandated that Norm from Cheers must have a part in every one of them? I don't know if he's in this new one, but smart money would say yes.
  19. A head's up if you don't already know: pre-sale starts tomorrow and they will be offering a special 2-day ticket for $55 (as opposed to $35 for an individual for Sat. or Sun.).
  20. Rickie Lee Jones' Sermon on Exposition Boulevard is excellent. I've never been a fan of hers and picked this up on a whim a week or two ago and have been overly pleasantly surprised at the tunes on here. Patti Smith's album of cover tunes, 12, is decent. I like both the new Son Volt and Dinosaur, Jr. discs a lot. The new Modest Mouse is o.k. The Kings of Leon disc, Because of the Times, gets some considerable play from me, as well.
  21. Coffee ends up being relatively cheap if you buy it in bulk and make it at home, too. Even the Starbuck's beans. But as mentioned, you pay for quality. Some of the schwag they sell in gas stations (whether from the pot or the latte/cappuccino machine) is pretty rough, too. Getting a regular coffee at Starbuck's is comparable to anywhere else. Which is why I always get a frappuccino at Starbuck's. Not only are they insanely tasty, but they're insanely tasty. I look at it the same way as paying more for a good beer in a nice restaurant/bar than I'd expect to pay for a Schlitz at the local Mo
  22. Will you be vacating all free time?
  23. This year it's all local vacations: Up to Winter Park for a week starting Saturday. My old man and step-mom fly in from VT. Lake Dillon (about an hour west of Denver) towards the end of July. We rent a nice, enormous house out there each summer and my wife's sister, brother-in-law and their kids drive out from San Diego. Always a huge blast. They're freaks, after all. The Lyons, CO Folk's Fest in mid-August. Camping out, great tunes, great beer, great friends.
  24. Finished Finn last night. I really enjoyed this book. Clinch does a nice job of not stepping on Twain's toes but still respecting the masterpiece of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by keeping time lines, previous character developments, etc. accurate. It really is independent from Huck Finn as it's the story of Huck's pap, Finn. Chock full of symbolism and written with a keen eye for detail and the dialect of the times. I'll read it again in a few years. Will read a chapter of each of these tonight and opt on one to focus on: The new Christopher Hitchens book. I think the guy is pre
