  1. I don't see why he'd be ordered to AA or alcohol classes. He wasn't caught imbibing or under the influence of drinking. It's a pretty minor thing. Minor enough that he was cited a ticket much like any other minor traffic violation.
  2. From http://web.mit.edu/alcohol/www/laws.html A. Transportation of Alcohol It is unlawful for a person under 21 years of age knowingly to drive a car with alcohol in it unless accompanied by a parent. To do so may result in a fine of up to fifty dollars or suspension of the driver’s license for three months, or both. May be arrested immediately without a warrant. M.G.L.c.138,#34C
  3. IIRC, the book -essentially about the movements and thoughts of the young man who purposefully removed himself from society- has one character in it. We get to know him through his diaries. Krakauer did a nice job of shaping the guy through the diaries. Seems like a tough angle to convey in a movie, though.
  4. Licensed hunting is essential to helping curb wild animal over-population. It actually serves a purpose. This has nothing to do with whether one chooses to eat meat or not, but hunting serves a utile function.
  5. Phil shows are definitely more free-form and loose. It's just the way Phil likes his band(s). He purposefully changes the line-up around so as to keep it innovative, fresh, and exploratory and so as not to fall into ruts and have it get stale. He's the ringleader but less in a sense as Bob is with Ratdog. P&F shows definitely seem more of a collaboration/collective and are known to take bigger chances with the music. It works most of the time, too. As mb suggested, the line-up with Warren and Jimmy Herring really smoked and I'll take John Molo on the kit over Jeff Sipe or others any day
  6. Beltman: I started that book in the past year on recommendation from a good pal who usually nails it with recommendations for me but just could not get into it. How far are you along and thoughts so far?
  7. I read Under the Banner of Heaven a few months ago and it was a good read, as well. He does have a knack for the writing thing, for sure.
  8. I've said this before but Into the Wild is one of those books that pops into my head from time to time, seemingly out of nowhere. Certain "scenes" I've conjured and stored in my memory from it reveal themselves at unusual times. I read the book about five years ago, too, and only once. It's apparently a very memorable read for me.
  9. Ooh, or maybe it was Joe Niekro. Though I'd remember if it was a Niekro, I thinkTi I think the guy I'm thinking of played briefly for BOS a few years later. Tim something.
  10. I used to know this. All I remember is it was someone from the Braves 'pen.
  11. This is a good point. It did take some distance in time for me to embrace the sounds of the spin-offs. The bottom line (for me) though is hearing the music in a live setting. I love the ability to go back to the GD on tape/cd but hearing the tunes (however altered) live is what it's about. Yeah, it's not the same but that's not going to change. I really think it takes a little work to think of the spin-offs as something different and to stop with making comparisons. That'll almost always leave you disappointed. It's still good tunes, IMO.
  12. Yeah, #715 was like left-center field. And yes, I think he was playing for the Angels by then. Atta boy.
  13. Ahhh, a CT boy. Good guess as Valentine did play both infield and outfield early in his career, but no, not Bobby V.
  14. Phil and Ryan Adams did an impromptu gig at my buddy's small bar that is directly next to the Fillmore a few years ago when the power went out during their rehearsal. Ryan was playing Garcia's "Tiger." Phil and friends should be making an announcement soon regarding a tour this fall. Look for a lot of east coast dates and hopefully a Denver and/or Red Rocks stop. P&F is always a fantastic show, IMO.
  15. I used to have a sweet, large poster of Aaron rounding the bases (with the two guys/kids chasing after him) after hitting #715 hanging prominently next to my bed as a kid. I wish I still had it. Trivia (no googling): Who was the player who nearly tumbled over the wall in an attempt to catch Aaron's #715?
  16. They/he may be idiotic, but he certainly is/was aware it was illegal. I think this speaks to the point that perhaps he feels invincible/above the law. Even though it's a felony I'd guess the odds are in his favor that the charges will be reduced to a favorable plea agreement. I mean, he's a well-paid and well-known athlete after all. Maybe Vick isn't so idiotic after all...or idiotic like a fox.
  17. What about senators from NY who aren't from NY?
  18. I don't know if he was fighting dogs or not, but it's his property, it's his dog. If that's what he wants to do, do it. I think people should mind their business. I know of a lot of back roads that got the dog fight if you want to go see it. If it's behind closed doors, it's okay. ed. This is Clinton Portis.
  19. Enjoy the show. I might catch 'em at Red Rocks early next week (depends on the mood of the day). I hear Kimmock's been rippin' it up, too. I don't mind Weir doing Garcia tunes. They're partly his tunes, as well. One of my favorite stickers from tour in the 80s: "Bob Spit On Me."
