Where to start with The Grateful Dead?
Lammycat replied to reverandgroove's topic in Someone Else's Song
I've gotta respectfully disagree with this. If you're talking about 20-30% of their entire body of work, no way. If you're talking about 20-30% of a lot of individual shows I think it really comes down to personal preference. I personally don't think the drug issues were overtly noticeable until the last couple of years of the band, and even then it was not all the time or even most of the time, but a noticeable amount of the time. Save for a relatively few rough patches in the early-mid 80s I don't see drugs impacting the music to a level deemed unlistenable. Sound system issues? I don' -
I do not own it but can get it quickly at the library. I may dig into it before Billy the Kid....
-
Sir S.- did you finish The Teammates already? I'm almost done with Opening Day and was going to start a biography on Billy the Kid but might jump to The Teammates if it's a worthwhile read....

I forgot to tivo the thing. It's a series, correct?

If the Stone Church in NH is any indication, they're all very small clubs. Pubs, band shells, cafes, etc.

Not to get into specifics too much, but FWIW I read that the work was not structural. From cnn.com: http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/08/01/bridge.collapse/index.html Construction took place on the bridge Tuesday night and was to take place again Wednesday night, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The highway would have been restricted to a single lane in both directions from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. both nights. The bridge was undergoing redecking work, but nothing structural was being done, U.S. Transportation Department spokesman Brian Turmail said.

Wow. Thoughts go out to all involved/affected.

I've recently learned that not only is this Oliver's second escape (the first time was six years ago and he remained elusive for two weeks) but he is nine years old, about the same age that cousin Oliver was when he had to move in with the Bradys. Just sayin' and all.
-
Probably collectors items eventually, too. Although I paid $3.99/six-pack for Buzz Cola a few weeks ago and they're dumping it for $0.99/six-pack as of today, so....

You know, I've never had one. I'm a big fan of good hot dogs, though, and have watched the special on them (it's either Discovery or A&E) several times and the Rutt's impress me the most. I've heard and read great things about those deep-fried rascals, too, and await the day the two of us finally meet. Me and a Rutt's dog, that is.

I believe these folks were on one of the late night talk shows last night.

Bravissimo! Any one else picking up on the Brady Bunch theme here? Cousin Oliver comes to live with the Brady's ( a sort of cage in itself) because his father takes a job in the jungles of South America and leaves Oliver behind. Lots of high jinx ensue.... No?

Well yeah, if people start removing it themselves he'll have to change his title to simply "Nose and Throat Specialist." That's 1/3 of his business, man. All I know is that it helps my ears.
-
Get something good on t.v., get prone, and get someone to light/hold the candle for you in each ear. One ear at a time, of course. And don't be jammin' them all down in there too far or anything.

Noted and filed.
-
Wow. I haven't noticed that. I don't think it's happening on my recordings. Or maybe I've just become inured by the scroll, I don't know.

I'm number 240-something on the wait list at the library for this. I've heard good things about her. It better be good or I'll... quickly return it to the library.

This is a good point. Even better is that the NYY actually weakened their pen at the same time by dumping Proctor. Speaking of the Bronx: Anybody been keeping up with The Bronx is Burning? Some cheesy stuff in there (especially some of the fake back-drops) but still entertainment worthy for a Tues. night post-game viewing (TiVO).

By George, how'd they all fit in there?! Is there a link to the article?
-
True. Seemingly everyone has covered it, too. The Stones do a nice version (as does Lucinda Williams) and the WS do it justice with Jack's guitar work and vacuous howl of a voice. My number finally came up at the library yesterday for Icky Thump and I've gotten through the first three tunes on the disc so far (car ride). I like it a bunch already. Meg's drumming/thudding is old, though.

How about the 9 lb. burger for "the munchies?" http://www.dennysbeerbarrelpub.com/ You can also upgrade to a 15-lb'er.
