  1. That's funny. The time I met Prine in Telluride I had neither pen nor paper. He actually waited as I darted into a shop for a pen and then I still had no paper. Hence the $5 bill. After he shakily signed he looked at my bedraggled state and commented "like you're not gonna spend this."
  2. I like that English beat tune, "Save it for Later." The lyrics are cool and the tune has some oomph to it. Then there's this: We don't follow fashion That would be a joke You know we're going to set them set them So everyone can take note take note When they saw you kneeling Crying words that you mean Opening their eyeballs eyeballs Pretending that you're Al Green Al Green Goody two goody two goody goody two shoes Goody two goody two goody goody two shoes Don't drink don't smoke - what do you do Don't drink don't smoke - what do you do Subtle innuendos follow There must be something h
  3. Speaking of houses: Blues Traveler came by our house in college after a gig (their road manager at the time had gone to the small college for a year) and utterly wrecked the place. I guess we kind of helped, too. Jack Daniels bottles everywhere and two nitrous tanks. The cops came by about 3 a.m. to bodies strewn all over the lawn passed out.
  4. I hung backstage with Jorma after an acoustic Hot Tuna show about 7 years ago (my friend's duet band opened) and I was a little too loose and told him he had a really big head. He smirked incredulously and resumed his conversation with someone else. Good times. I also got to hang with Mike Watt during set break for a Banyan show this past year. Very nice guy to chat with.
  5. I had Thanksgiving dinner with Chris Thile (Nickel Creek) a few years ago. He was married to my friend's daughter. Was a Red Sox fan, iirc.
  6. I ended up catching Merl Saunder at the Fox in Boulder 12 years ago today (tonight). A pretty rough day.
  7. I like that Clem Snide outfit. Good stuff. Looks like a decent enough flick, too.
  8. I just got word that T.C. will be playing at the local Dead bar with some guys from a local Dead cover band as well as "Bobby" from DSO next weekend. I might have to check it out. I caught him once once before and it was pretty cool.
  9. But AT+T apologized. They said they made a mistake. I think they've got a right to be ticked off about this thing. It's not so much a band thing as it is a basic freedom thing. It's shady stuff. I'd rather have them publicly call AT+T on this than to just take it lying down and give more fuel to "the man." I'm not sure I agree with the "where are they now" comment, though. PJ continue to tour on a semi-regular basis and still have a huge following.
  10. In the late 80s/early 90s my squeeze at the time and I decided to rent a room a nice hotel in Roanoke (we lived in Salem 5 min. away) just for the hell of it. About an hour after checking in we couldn't help but noticed a shit-load of young girls squealing and shrieking below our window. turns out the New Kids on the Block were staying there and we could see them out the window almost the same floor as us dropping shit out the window to the throng below. We had a nice dinner and then went back to the room and got cocked. Around one in the morning we decided to search for food. When the eleva
  11. I met and chatted briefly with Shel Silverstein on Martha's Vineyard when I lived out there in the summer of '87. Very pleasant man, he was.
  12. Met John Prine in the streets of Telluride in the late 90s during the Bluegrass fest. Only person I've ever asked for an autograph. He signed a $5 bill that I then used for the bus fare from Denver to Boulder after the shows.
  13. I was hung over a railing (two stories up) by the seat of my pants in 1985 at a party in a Georgetown campus apartment by Patrick Ewing because I was drunk and I guess wasn't wanted at the party. In fairness to Ewing, I wasn't invited and I had stumbled in, so...
  14. :cheers A few beers, and two cheers for the two of you.
  15. Oblivious' sitting next to George from Seinfeld in a restaurant the other night got me thinking about well-known people I've bumped into/met over the years. This has probably been done before but I haven't seen it so here it is. Who, of fame or infamy, have you bumped into, met, etc. over the years? Did you hang with Pat Morita at the Days Inn bar on a Tuesday afternoon in Dayton? Maybe accidentally brushed up against Bea Arthur at the Country Buffet and exchange heated words? Perhaps sat next to Penelope Cruz on the 14 bus on your way to work one day and discussed the sordid yet spectac
  16. That Skinny Dip is an awesome summer beer. The cascade hoppiness hits the spot.
  17. Steve Ballmer (CEO for Microsoft), ready to party: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvsboPUjrGc
  18. Yeah, Atkins is having a very good year. Holliday is having a phenomenal year.
  19. Nice day to have Garrett Atkins on a fantasy team. Six RBI. A 19-4 rout of Milwaukee for the sweep, too. I was planning on going to the 1:00 game today at Coor's Field but up until about an hour ago I thought today was Tuesday.
  20. I've seen Nels play with Watt in Banyan (drummer Stephen Perkins' band) before. Excellent stuff. Now that's a great and ever-revolving/evolving line up.
