I'm great with a knife. The squirrels had mangled up 5 of the six pumpkins we carved two Sundays ago within a day. The only survivor was the 7 yr old's, who took it back to his mom's and kept it inside. Stupid organic pumpkins.

Caught the Meat Puppets (because I'm an old man and it's my generation's music and I wouldn't understand or something like that) last spring (Curt's kid Elmo plays with them on tour) and they still sound great. They're still a cheap ticket, too.

I don't know about a consensus, but the gear book mentioned above (this is pushing it, for the casual fan, though) is excellent, as is Jay Blakesberg's photo/essay book Between the Dark and Light. Blair Jackson's Garcia: An American Life is (imo) the best straight-up and in-depth take on the man and the band, from the author's personal connection to the band . It's well-written and covers it all in a lot of detail and personal insight.

The head custodian at my school switched from rooting for KC to SF during this series because the Royals are "too cocky". He may be on to something.

These books (Phil's, Scully's, Parrish's, etc.) are usually entertaining just in getting the individual's perspective. They aren't "great reads" in any literary sense, of course, but not bad for a quick breeze through "history".

I have a puzzle someone gave me years ago of the GD playing at Shoreline or the Greek or somewhere outdoors. It's a photo, with a good amount of the crowd in the puzzle, too. Fuck that.
