Ok that Rochester (11-5-77) show is a great "Eyes"...See I occasionally get into post 74 stuff (actually I listen to quite a bit of latter year Dead). That entire show has a funny kind of energy to it. If memory serves that's the one where Phil is letting loose with all kinds of bombs is it not? Also the "Take a step back" rap is kinda funny on that Jerry: All these people in front are getting horribly smashed" Bob: Moooooove back! Mooooove back ! I wish I had a disc or two worth of stage banter some funny funny stuff over the years. Still my favorite 10-30-70 Cinci, Ohio Jerry: Whatt

Just my opinion but the Eyes on the So Many Roads boxset and GD Movie is my favorite all time version. I believe it's 10-19-74. A close second is the 6-18-74 Louisville, KY version. I agree, keep to prior 1976. Later versions don't have that great jam at the end and seem to be to "speedy". But what do I know right? Anything past 1974 rarely gets played in these ears More Primal Dead!

Seems like a lot of "Shed" style places are succumbing to developers. Starwood here in Nashville is gone....torn down for condos, houses, and a "mixed use" retail area. Just what we need another plazza with a Best Buy, Barnes and Noble, and Pottery Barn.....seems to be a trend with these outdoor venues that were / are owned by Clear Channel

What's the oldest thing in your house?

I have a M1911 .45 pistol, that according to the Colt historians was built in 1916 ( I had the serial number researched ). I got it from an old timer neighbor of mine years ago. I still shoot it every once in awhile, it is in remarkably good shape. -
don't get me started on you.......

It's a Grateful dead thing -
Mine is the "Ice Cream Kid" from the Dead's "Europe 72" album. I just like the idea of a tripped out fool jamming an ice cream cone onto his head. Plus I like the Dead just a 'lil bit.

Nice!!! If you get a chance PM me a pic of it I'd love to see it. So you "LET" him spend money eh?......was the strap some kind of compromise on a , let's say a vintage sunburst Fender or some other treasure? On an unrelated note I spoke to a buddy of mine who is a (more than casual, but not exactly an obsessive) Wilco fan and read him the set list from last night. He was pretty stunned and expressed his wish for them to get out to LA quick. Still grinning goofily from last night. I think all who attended were given a very special treat.

Good deal!!!! Leave the cash and credit cards before going into Gruhn's.....dangerous place. Glad you enjoyed Nash Vegas. Sorry we didn't meet and you guys have a safe trip home....I'm finally ready to crash....was kinda keyed up after that show.......

I was in 12, I did see you, well thought it was you anyways and then when you posted about hollering down over the railing before the show I knew it was...I was gonna go over and say Hi but I wasn't sure and didn't wanna just go over and say hey are you poppy? I was off to your left in 12 row F wearing the black hoodie and the red sox hat. I saw you and your husband walk in....there was like 15 people in the balcony at that point. Shoulda said Hi I guess but like I said, wasn't sure...... You guys get to Gruhn's?

Yeah, one of the video tapers asked if she could film me and my girlfriend as we were sitting outside before the show....when she was done I asked her what was up....she said they are filming a documentary of this tour and it should (her words) be out in a year or so.

Yeah....absolutely amazing. Very high energy throughout. Jeff in the Nudie suit, Nels gyrating and twitching......I'm drained from just listening, dunno how these guys do it night in and night out. Flat out the best band out there, and at the top of their game. I'll echo Poppy....seeing (and hearing) Jeff doing an un-amplified and un-miked Someone Else's Song was pretty amazing, reminded me of the last Ryman show when he did Acuff-Rose like that. Very, very nice.

You are correct...you will be about 20-30 feet from the front of the stage and about 10 feet high...completely unobstructed view....your gonna love it. The balcony seats (and front row especially) are the best seats in the house (though with only 2200 or so seats there aren't any bad ones, even the obstructed view seats are not horrible ). The place is so small that even though you are stage left you will easily be able to see the entire band...hell yer gonna be close enough to see the sweat dripping on their faces.

Yep 5-11-78. Oh yeah, the stories are true....I wasn't really in to them as much as I would be at later points (hey I was 11! and it was the first rock concert I ever went to), but even my naive 11 year old self knew that the guys were....ah....enhanced to some extent. Allegedly the story goes they were on mescaline. I remeber people going nuts during the entire gig and though I didn't know why I knew it was something good ( when Weir came out with the gorilla mask I was like what......?)...Obviously this show started my life long love of the boys...I was lucky that particular was my first.

Gruhn's , 400 Broadway...kind of right around the corner from the Ryman link to gruhns Seriously nice stuff...you may wanna leave the credit cards at home if you go to this place. They have all sorts of rare and vintage stuff. They usually have a bunch of stuff previously owned by various stars, etc.

actually I was 11....didn't turn 12 until October of that year!!!!! It was quite a feat, my Dad was a middle school pricipal and he damn well knew what that scene was all about, my friends big brother took us....to this day I'm still amazed my rock solid conservative dad let me go......go figure......I did wait a few years before I started sampling the chemicals though

Hell Yeah!!!!! My favorite period. Primal Dead at it's best. I have always loved that Darkstar, (and all Darkstars) and when I got to hear it in it's full transition from Mountains Of The Moon into DS...yikes....as far as I'm concerned it is my first among equals of Darkstars. Oddly enough it wasn't the first one I ever heard, I had been exposed to some seriously trippy 72 Darkstars before I ever got my lysergic hands on Live Dead. I would have loved to have seen the boys in this time period (but I was only 3 back in 69) ah well....I did get to see 'em in 78 ( recorded for all time as DP25!) a

Hey Poppy...sorry East Nashville isn't the Vandy part of Town. East Nashville is on the other side of the river (Cumberland) it's too far to walk, and even if it wasn't there are many dicey areas there. If you are driving in and have a car it's an easy enough drive over there...you can get directions from the mapquest or whatever. Like I said there are some kind of dicey areas in East Nashville, it's not like Beirut or anything but just be as cautious as you would be in any city. The parts of East Nashville where the bars and stuff are is fine...you just gotta go through the dicey parts to ge

Well.....In Nashville you kind of need a vehicle. Right smack dab in downtown there is tons of "touristy" stuff but if you are looking for book stores record stores your kind of out of luck without a car. Up around the Vanderbilt area there are some cool places but it's probably too far to walk ( I'd say it's at least 2 miles from downtown to the WestEnd -Vandy area). Cabs are an expensive option in Nashville, and it's not like other bigger cities you have to call for them, you can't hail them on the street. There are lots of places to eat in the downtown area so thats a plus. Again realize yo

What refund? I'm gonna end up owing about 150$ I guess the nearly 20K I paid in taxes wasn't enough.

You know, if you think about it we are really lucky. This is simply a band that is at their absolute prime.
