No confessions, but I've always wondered how many fans the Replacements earned through the movie Can't Hardly Wait. Seems like a weird movie to carry a Replacements song as its title. Jennifer Love Hewitt and the Replacements should have a few more degrees of separation between them.

Checked this out from the library after so much discussion about it on the boards a while back. Kind of surprised it never came across my radar before since I've been listening to VU for about 22 years, but I always followed Reed's stuff more than Cale's. Very good stuff here. He and another person are credited w/ playing bass, but I'm pretty sure I can pick him out on Andalucia. I'm pretty sure Sirratt is channelling Cale any time he plays Handshake Drugs.

I can see Neil being a jerk to work with, though he seems to be good to his fans. He follows his muse. If you're not on board with that, look out! Kinda like Tweedy. A lot like Tweedy or Bob Mould. I've met Mould several times and he is the coolest musician as far as going out of his way to be kind to his fans. I wouldn't want to be in a band with the guy though.

My problem is that I have enormous respect for both Los Lobos and Paul Simon. Again, 2 sides to every story. Truth somewhere in the middle.

I teach 7th grade, just 2 years away from your age. I would drop dead in my classroom if any of my students could identify more than 3 of the artists on your list. This looks like it came from someone in their late 30s (like me). Impressive!

When I saw Wilco at Val Air Ballroom in 2006, they played Walken and On and On. It was pretty clear that the next album was going to sound different from the previous one. Didn't get that sense w/ these 2 tracks. Kind of follow the SBS mold of mellow songs. One Wing has a great intensity at the end. I love what Nels adds in that regard! Thanks for posting.
