  1. People who regularly check Drudge Report may have seen this: http://www.cuil.com/ He also links to this article. My first visit was very disappointing. It doesn't search phrases enclosed by double quotes and has no advanced search button.
  2. Jeff Tweedy Living Room show 4-5-08. Downloaded this a while ago and only listened to the 1st 1/2 hour or so.
  3. Happy belated 50th birthday Thurston Moore. http://youtube.com/watch?v=gY7PfaO_YZY
  4. I've only seem them once, back in college. It took me a while to figure out what I was seeing. Green, red, and blue all fluttering at what seemed to be 20 ft. up. Unforgettable!
  5. Dead fans might be interested in this: Composer introduces a "dead"symphony As a moderate fan of the Dead, I don't think a strictly structured orchestra is the best way to capture the spirit of the band, but it sounds okay. I like the picture in the article. I'm thinking of making it my avatar.
  6. The director, Peter Hedges, also directed Pieces of April as well as wrote the screenplay for About a Boy and the novel, What's Eating Gilbert Grape. I went to the same H.S. as him, so I follow his work fairly closely. This was a good movie, but not as good as his other efforts. Could've done without Dane Cook.
  7. The Favre situation is getting to be as fun to watch as the "Hmm.... Maybe I just don't get it thread".
  8. Young people are supposed to be liberal. You don't pay taxes yet!
  9. I've only seen 1 or 2 arena shows in the past 15 years. I really got put off by them when I saw Neil Young & Crazy Horse back in '91 or '92 at the Target Center in the Twin Cities. I was so far away that the sound and the sight was out of sync. When I moved closer, it didn't help much. I don't know if Wilco would even sell out an arena in Chicago just because a lot of their fans wouldn't like the arena experience.
  10. Jules' answer notwithstanding, here's some data: And, as someone who has expressed conservative views here, you will feel welcome by most, even if you're in the minority.
  11. The fact that he admits he's not following scientific protocol doesn't diminish the fact that long-term studies may reveal harm. Cellular technology has exploded over the past decade. There have been articles linking the widespread use of wireless phones to the diminishing number of bees. Maybe, hopefully, this man's fear will be proven wrong, but the only reason science hasn't spoken on the long-term effects of cell phone usage on children is because the technology is still new.
  12. All the kids at the school I teach have their cell phones out soon after the bell rings. I hope this is unwarranted fear. Pittsburgh cancer center warns of cell phone risks
  13. Once Naked for Nirvana, Now a Teen Spirit Interesting article.
  14. One of my favorite bits from David Letterman, back when he was funny. Rupert Jee annoys people
  15. And because they come from conservative think tanks they are immediately invalidated? From my point of view, universities have basically become liberal think tanks.
  16. Wilco doing "Can You Picture That?" by Dr. Teeth & the Electric Mayhem
  17. I really liked it. Especially the scene in the park. When I really like a movie, I'll check out some bonus features. There were some important scenes that ended up on the cutting room floor. That, and a decapitation!
  18. Well... as normal as Iowa City can ever be.
