  1. According to pollstar, Gary Louris is playing Blues on Grand in Des Moines (?) on Sept. 9.
  2. Thank you. I always remember my H.S. government teacher, Mr. McDonald, saying he read it every 4th of July. I try to continue that tradition. I have seen the real thing at the National Archives. It's under so much glass, it's pretty underwhelming. The words are much more moving than the piece of paper they were written on.
  3. Fireworks for those of you who aren't seeing the real thing tonight.
  4. Salvation Blues is a MUCH better album than Vagabonds IMO. Rainy Day Music is the only decent post-Olson Jayhawks album, but it's a great one.
  5. I'm glad to hear about people going. Some good bands, but I can't justify the ticket price and the time away from kids on a holiday weekend. Enjoy! Let's hope it's successful enough to continue and to grow.
  6. Bush Tours America To Survey Damage Caused By His Disastrous Country I don't care if you totally disagree w/ the sentiment here, it's damn funny!
  7. Just got back. Liked what I saw between the 30,000 potty breaks my kids took! It had something to do with a robot, right?
  8. I think the world is better off with the allies having won WWII (despite what happened in Dresden, Tokyo, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, etc.) than if those civilians hadn't died. We can argue whether those bombing campaigns were necessary or even useful, but I'm sure lots of civilians died in many other "needed" bombing raids.
  9. Good Point. Limbaugh and Hannity can feed off either one.
  10. I'm guessing the people paying his salary are counting on an Obama victory. Limbaugh was actually entertaining (IMO) during the Clinton years. It's always easier being funny while taking shots at the people in charge, just ask Jon Stewart. Limbaugh has made me do nothing but cringe in the past decade or so.
  11. I tried to upload an old MP3 to muxtape, but it didn't recognize it as an MP3 (??), so I uploaded on my teacher page. It won't be up long since storage is limited. It's a friend of mine and I about 22 years ago (aged 16) playing Chicago's 25 or 6 to 4. It's very strange. We had never heard the real song! I think it's pretty funny, but maybe it's a "you had to be there" kind of a thing.
  12. You must not be familiar w/ the duties of a vice president if you think Jeff Tweedy holding the office would be reason enough for Wilco to go on hiatus.
  13. Said Red Molly to James that's a fine motorbike A girl could feel special on any such like Said James to Red Molly, well my hat's off to you It's a Vincent Black Lightning, 1952 And I've seen you at the corners and cafes it seems Red hair and black leather, my favorite color scheme And he pulled her on behind And down to Box Hill they did ride Said James to Red Molly, here's a ring for your right hand But I'll tell you in earnest I'm a dangerous man I've fought with the law since I was seventeen I robbed many a man to get my Vincent machine Now I'm 21 years, I might make 22 And I don't mind
  14. Hey! I spent the Bicentennial 4th of July on Gull Lake. As a kid we vacationed at Grand View Lodge. We went back there in 2001, holy cow is it nice now.
  15. I've always thought Iwo Jima Memorial was the best view of the city and that I'd love to live in one of those condos behind it. Did you notice that's where Charlie Wilson lived in the movie Charlie Wilson's War? For my 4th, we're debating whether to keep our 3-year-olds up for fireworks. I'm afraid my daughter wouldn't like it. Loud-flushing toilets scare her...
  16. I will assume that you're being humorous despite no . If Obama's faith-based initiative is really pandering (and apprently the Christian right does) it's bound to fall flat, as this article shows. I have a huge amount of respect for the man openly supporting gay rights issues.
  17. I couldn't get an audio file from borders.com to play on WMP 11 while using FF 3. I thought it might be an issue w/ Borders because they've redone their Web site. Maybe it's a Firefox issue.
  18. Yes, but not as exciting as "Breach", another based on a true story spy thriller which came out around the same time. Chris Cooper is amazing in it.
  19. I have constitutional, though not moral or ethical, issues with faith-based charities getting gov't $$. I don't think that Obama is pandering so much as he has witnessed, probably through Rev. Wright's church, how effective people of faith are at helping ALL people. Yes, there a faith-based charities that discriminate, but there are many that are open to people of all beliefs, they just want to help because that's what their belief tells them to do. Golden rule, love thy neighbor, etc., etc. If the SC says there are constitutional ways to fund faith-based charities that help all comers, m
  20. I think my next read might be Shelby Foote's CW narrative.
