  1. That'd be great if the barn were in central Iowa, otherwise they'd be increasing MY overhead costs!
  2. I enjoyed Angels & Demons, but wouldn't call it a classic. I've read 3 of his books (Digital Fortress & DaVinci are the others) and he's VERY formulaic. Spoiler alert for his next novel... The bad guy is the older, gentle, mentor/father-like figure.
  3. I've read a few Douglas Coupland, never really moved by him. But he should be on this list just for cultural impact.
  4. Pro wrestling has schtik??!? (or did you mean Eddie's singing?)
  5. The funniest thing I ever heard on This American Life. The Phone Message Act I, starts about 2 minutes in.
  6. He talks like Eddie Vedder sings! But then again, so do most professional wrestlers.
  7. I'd say if you substituted ADD for autism, he'd be closer to right, but still not quite. I think ADD is way overdiagnosed, but a real disorder. You can tell when kid respond well to medication and others just get spaced out. I've had several Auspurgers (sp?) students. Auspurgers Syndrome is on the most functional end of the autism spectrum. In most cases, the diagnosis seems accurate.
  8. Two good pieces about Obama: One by conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer. His style usually rubs me the wrong way, even when I agree with him. I liked this column and agree that Obama has an overly healthy sense of self. I don't think, however, that it's an argument against his potential presidency. This other one from the Onion is a pretty good take on the media's love affair with BO.
  9. There was a great interview w/ Rhett on Fresh Air yesterday.
  10. Are you sure about that? Have you watched Man in the Sand and I Am Trying to Break Your Heart?
  11. When I first saw this link on Drudge, I thought I might post it w/ some smart ass remark. After reading the article, I am genuinely touched. I'm not sure I'd be touched by the song itself, but the gesture is very moving.
  12. That's the act of one wacky dude, not the GOP. Look at his Website. I'm sure he'll be on "Hannity's America" any day now.
  13. Not quite that big, I got stung by a bee a couple of weeks ago, it had been years since that happened. The sting swelled like a baseball for a short time, but went down almost as quick. I didn't want my kids to experience that, so we high tailed it out of there.
  14. Pierzynski can be a a dick sometimes, but he plays the game the right way! The Twins lineup in the earlier part of the decade (Hunter, Jacque Jones, Pierzynski, Mientkiewicz, Koskie, Guzman, etc) was the best example of team where the whole was better than the parts.
  15. I'm currently in the back yard w/ my kids (got the lap top fired up). My daughter says, "Daddy, come here we found a cute bug!". I go all the way across the yard to see them cooing and almost cuddling a wasp or hornet (I'll have to research, but it sure wasn't a bee!). Yikes!
  16. Keystone was a standby cheap beer in college. I went to college in NE Iowa, near Wisconsin, so Rhinelander and Huber (brewed by the same brewery, I just discovered) were also regulars. $10/case ain't bad!
  17. I'm pretty sure the guy who presented Morneau the trophy called him Jason Morneau, the later Dustin. Yeah, the guy plays in a small market, but he won MVP 2 years ago. Learn his name. As a Twinkies fan, I thought Morneau handed it all w/ class, although he should've give the trophy to Hamilton.
  18. I enjoyed this movie, but I think one of the central ideas of being a good debater is being able to defend positions squarely opposed to your own. I wish we would've seen that portrayed.
  19. I don't know if there's any way to have an admin confirm this, I doubt it. But I voted for Hamilton. True story.
  20. Forgot about One Trick Pony, "Late in the Evening" is so gooooooooood!
