  1. Yeah, my fuzzy recollection is that they chalked it up to a domestic source fairly quickly.
  2. Checked this out from the library after so much discussion about it on the boards a while back. Kind of surprised it never came across my radar before since I've been listening to VU for about 22 years, but I always followed Reed's stuff more than Cale's. Very good stuff here. He and another person are credited w/ playing bass, but I'm pretty sure I can pick him out on Andalucia. I'm pretty sure Sirratt is channelling Cale any time he plays Handshake Drugs.
  3. I can see Neil being a jerk to work with, though he seems to be good to his fans. He follows his muse. If you're not on board with that, look out! Kinda like Tweedy. A lot like Tweedy or Bob Mould. I've met Mould several times and he is the coolest musician as far as going out of his way to be kind to his fans. I wouldn't want to be in a band with the guy though.
  4. My problem is that I have enormous respect for both Los Lobos and Paul Simon. Again, 2 sides to every story. Truth somewhere in the middle.
  5. I'm really going to need to check your ID, no way a 14 year old listens to that. Even if you're a jazz nerd!
  6. I teach 7th grade, just 2 years away from your age. I would drop dead in my classroom if any of my students could identify more than 3 of the artists on your list. This looks like it came from someone in their late 30s (like me). Impressive!
  7. I the show is half as good as the CD, I'll have to rent the DVDs
  8. When I saw Wilco at Val Air Ballroom in 2006, they played Walken and On and On. It was pretty clear that the next album was going to sound different from the previous one. Didn't get that sense w/ these 2 tracks. Kind of follow the SBS mold of mellow songs. One Wing has a great intensity at the end. I love what Nels adds in that regard! Thanks for posting.
  9. Pardon my ignorance, but before I download, what exactly is a .rar file?
  10. It is interesting. Why is this the first we've heard about it? 20 years later? There are 2 sides to every story, but it does change the way I look at Paul Simon a little.
  11. Yeah, like I think Starbucks burns the hell out of their coffee and some people like it.
  12. I also like Sleeps with Angels. Except for Piece of Crap, which is more of a description than a title.
  13. Good Neil albums since 1988: Freedom Ragged Glory Harvest Moon Prairie Wind
  14. I've done Yahoo Pick 'em with work friends. It's where you make weekly picks on the winners of all the NFL games. You can play straight up or against the spread. We always play w/ "confidence points" where you have to prioritize the games from most confidence to least. That makes it more interesting than the spread, IMO. I stopped doing fantasy football because I never felt like keeping track of all the various positions. This has been a very fun alternative for me. If there's interest on the board, I could set up a VC pick 'em league.
  15. I loved Wall Street, Nixon was okay. I really can't stand how JFK distorted history. I don't really care about what Stone thinks of W. Having said that, this preview makes the movie look fairly interesting. Some good casting and/or some good make-up. Esp. Rove & Rice. edit: A look at the cast on IMDB does look interesting. Rob Corddry as Ari Fleischer should be great as should Scott Glenn as Rumsfeld. Richard Dreyfuss as Cheney makes perfect sense. Re-watching The American President shows Dreyfuss playing a Cheney-like character years before Cheney himself began acting the way
  16. Sir Stewart now has the best avatar ever!
  17. People who regularly check Drudge Report may have seen this: http://www.cuil.com/ He also links to this article. My first visit was very disappointing. It doesn't search phrases enclosed by double quotes and has no advanced search button.
  18. Jeff Tweedy Living Room show 4-5-08. Downloaded this a while ago and only listened to the 1st 1/2 hour or so.
  19. Happy belated 50th birthday Thurston Moore. http://youtube.com/watch?v=gY7PfaO_YZY
  20. I've only seem them once, back in college. It took me a while to figure out what I was seeing. Green, red, and blue all fluttering at what seemed to be 20 ft. up. Unforgettable!
  21. Dead fans might be interested in this: Composer introduces a "dead"symphony As a moderate fan of the Dead, I don't think a strictly structured orchestra is the best way to capture the spirit of the band, but it sounds okay. I like the picture in the article. I'm thinking of making it my avatar.
  22. The director, Peter Hedges, also directed Pieces of April as well as wrote the screenplay for About a Boy and the novel, What's Eating Gilbert Grape. I went to the same H.S. as him, so I follow his work fairly closely. This was a good movie, but not as good as his other efforts. Could've done without Dane Cook.
