This is the best parenting book that I've read. One of the authors of that also havs one on teaching that guides much of my classroom management style.

Carlin was one of the smartest, funniest people. I lean conservative, so I disagree w/ a lot of his politics. However, he was so damn smart and funny, he always made me appreciate his point of view even when I disagree w/ it. He will be missed. I hope he's wrong about the afterlife for two reasons. 1) Just to shock him, 2) So we can all hear him again.

I'd be curious how old your daughter is. My 3-year olds love watching the trailer on the computer and we're probably going to take them to the theater for the first time, too. They've been to live shows before, but not to a movie theater. I'm a little worried about their behavior and attention span bothering other viewers.

I usually ignore EW because of this, but c'mon. Give them SOME credit. Crumb at #14?? That's sublime. That said. I think Royal Tenenbaums is Wes Anderson's masterpiece, not Rushmore; and it didn't make the list at all. In fact, I like Bottle Rocket better than Rushmore. Overall, I think EW deserves some credit for the number of indie movies on that list. Excluding Titanic, it's a pretty fair top 10.

I didn't know the WHO's stance on this. My wife was unable to nurse because we have twins and, being born about 4 weeks early, and probably a host of other reasons (lack of rest, lack of time to pump) her milk never came in great quantities. I am very open to nursing in public. It never really makes me uncomfortable w/ infants. But when we had some friends over, her daughter, whose age I don't remember but she was at least 2 maybe approaching 3, would push up her mom's bra and demand food. In retrospect, maybe my problem was more with discipline than with breastfeeding.

I liked Charlie Wilson's War. Philip Seymour Hoffman is an acting god.

We keep resisting the urge to get HBO, I think between all the quality shows they have + Tivo, we'd be glued to the TV. Looking forward to renting the John Adams DVD though.

We had a friend who breast fed a little too long. My feelings on the subject is that when they're old enough to ask for it by name, they're too old to have it.

I think when a media figure dies, they get a bit more attention because they are all in the same club. Russert certainly did not lean to the right. He was about as unbiased as they come even though his career started working Moyniahan & Cuomoa, he worked hard to nail Democrats and Republicans. I think he was probably universally respected. Having said that, I think there are lots of politicians who are breathing a quiet sigh of relief that they won't have to be interviewed by him again.

I watched 2 movies this weekend. Across the Universe is one of the worst movies I've see in a while. Horrible singing and choreography. Cloverfield was fun. Glad I didn't see it in the theater. That camera work on the big screen would've made me puke for sure.

Yes, to a point. Historically, tax cuts have led to revenue increases because tax cuts stimulate the economy. Therefore, even though lower percentages are being taxed, net revenues grow. The reason budget deficits ballooned in the 80's isn't the Reagan tax cuts, it's that spending grew at even faster rates than revenue increases. I think, however, the Bush tax cuts are reaching the point of diminishing returns. 2 posts on the Old 97's forum gave positive reviews. I wasn't there, maybe I'm glad I wasn't. I was really hoping to catch them this tour. Saw Rhett Miller about 1 1/2 years ago on a solo acoustic tour. That was a fantastic show, but I also thought this is a guy who needs a band behind him to fully appreciate.

Thanks for the reminder. Makes me wish I had Band of Brothers on DVD.
