My 3-year-old son wondered when Santa Claus (or as he says "Choco Laus") joined a rock band.

I agree. In a sense, I thought there was closure, though. Tommy Lee Jones was so overwhelmed by the events of the movie, that he took early retirement. He couldn't cope with it. He still wanted the comfort of his dad to deal with the harsh realities of life. Has anyone read the book? How close is the movie to it?

No Country for Old Men. Great movie. Not sure if it's Oscar-worthy, but I'm glad for the Coen Bros. How many Coen brothers movies feature incompetent criminals?? Raising Az., Fargo, Ladykillers, Oh Brother, more if I thought about it.

In that case, go Yankees (Twins). Boston should take at least 3 of 4, but I'm always hopeful. Have fun. The dome's not a great place to watch a game. Can't wait for the new stadium to open.

I'd say about the first half of that ad is fair and focused on important issues. The 2nd half, pretty typical but nothing horrible. I'm sure the commercials w/ Rev. Wright and the Weather Underground are soon to follow, though.

Hah! They look like aliens, but I'm pretty sure they're just Dee Lite rejects!

I believe people have seen UFOs, and I believe there must be some sort of intelligent life out there. However, I believe there are reasons simpler than extra-terrestrial visits to explain most UFO sightings (some that we just don't know). In other words, they're out there, but they haven't been here yet.

hard-working Americans = white Americans???

I really liked it, too. I call it "Syriana Lite". Better traditional action movie, but enough politics/history to make it somewhat thoughtful. Chris Cooper is the best!

I tried to go back and re-read this thread, but gave up after 4 or 5 pages of the whole chronological order angle (funny @ first, but, geez!). Is the general consensus here to rank Summerteeth so low? It might be tops for me. Here, let me try. 1. Summerteeth 2. YHF 3. Being There 3a. Mermaid Avenue 2 (Secret of the Sea alone gets this pretty high) 3b. Kicking Television 4. SBS 5. A Ghost is Born (boy, I love it, hard to believe it's 5th on my list) 5a. Mermaid Avenue 1 6. AM I hope my inclusion of the Mermaid Avenues and Kicking Television isn't too much a violation of protocol.

Good, not as good as Baumbach's "Squid & Whale", but still good.

I probably won't vote for Obama, but this is interesting food for thought who think all of Obama's talk about "hope" and "change" is just empty rhetoric. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/04/opinion/04friedman.html

My mother's side of my family is from Kentucky, so I grew up watching horse racing. I'm not a huge handicapper or anything, but I do love watching the Triple Crown races. I dread going to work tomorrow to face my horse-loving, racing-hating co-worker; because it's nearly impossible for me to justify the sport when things like this happen, but I won't stop watching.

When was the recorded? I'm guessing right after Summerteeth?

"Coming Up" is the best song by a former Beatle. -

That's how I feel about the few episodes I've seen of the Extras.

I can appreciate not liking Seinfeld. I love it. I think it's one of the best TV comedies ever, but some people just don't like the somewhat snotty, arrogant humor of it. If you don't like Seinfeld, I would expect you to hate Curb Your Enthusiasm. What I don't get are people who love Seinfeld who don't like Curb. It's basically the same humor with different characters. George=Larry David.

The Eno/Bowie trilogy was great. Low, Heroes, Lodger. They get less great as you move through them, but Low is a masterpiece. Some have already mentioned Eno/Byrne's My Life in the Bush of Ghosts. Still sound fresh a couple of decades later. Also, he produced Fear or Music by Talking Heads.

Well Done. It's hard to imagine a more blasphemous statement than that! -
Strange man dancing to Husker Du's something I learned today.

I don't think it is blasphemy, but I do believe it's true. I was watching The Last Waltz soon after seeing night 2 of the residency. It occurred to me that Sirratt's stage presence is a lot like Danko's. -

I am relatively new here and have been trying to figure out the backstory behind this show. Who are Dave and Martin? Is this a regular show? What is hotel SNS? I loved the version of Sir Duke, are we ever going to be able to hear the rest of this show? -
Have you heard the CD that came out yesterday. Allmusic gave it a very positive write-up. Jonathan's great!
