  1. I have a horrible OCD habit of forcing myself to finish any book I read. With 3-year-old twins, a full-time job, a part-time job, and my love of movies and music, reading is often on the backburner. Especially when I've started a book like this and I keep telling myself I have to finish it. I really liked Russell Banks' Rule of the Bone and enjoyed, but forced myself to finish Cloudsplitter. This one is a collection of short stories. His stories are so depressing that reading one after another is really depressing. My p/t job is at a bookstore and I keep seeing all these other books
  2. I feel a bit stupid about posting the obvious now. I shouldn't have tainted the sad feelings many feel for Kennedy. I'd delete the original post, but there's too much follow up to it now. Cancer sucks!
  3. I love it. Wasn't disappointed at all. The more I listen to it, the less I think it was a return to their earlier sound. There's a lot of unique sound to this record. I was surprised by the way it sounded. I expected a lot more noise with the addition of Nels.
  4. Can anyone explain the frogs in Magnolia? A plague from God? The apocalypse? To me it was a cheap, artsy way to end this movie of sometimes interesting, but disparate stories. The ending made me hate that movie!
  5. A fascinating documentary about a very bizarre and self-important American sub-culture. Billy Mitchell may be one of the world's biggest jerks of little consequence.
  6. How about baseball's answer to Lance Armstrong?? Lester throws no-hitter against Royals
  7. Star Wars + Freaks & Geeks + Dazed & Confused = It better be good or I'll be damn disappointed!!
  8. I just re-listened to the Night 2 residency show that I also attended. I remembered when they started Monday, that both my brother and I thought they were launching into Rock & Roll All Night. It sounded the same on the NPR Webcast from the 9:30 club. Granted, it's the same chords, but does anyone know if the live version is done in a way to mimic KISS on purpose? Has anyone else noted the similarity?
  9. Absolutely! I'm sure there will be some investigation into her beer distribution firm and any conflict of interest that's caused Sen. McCain. Spouses are probably one of the biggest pitfalls for modern politicians since when? JFK? Every candidate wants their wife to be like Jackie, but few are. On this topic, has Bill been more of an asset to Clinton's campaign or detriment. I think I'd say detriment, but without his presidency, would she even have the name recognition to become a viable candidate.
  10. From my Word Origin calendar today: tupelo - The name of this handsome southeastern tree and fo the Mississippi city where Elvis Presley was born comes from the Creek Indian word topilwa, meaning "thre tree that grows in water." The region is swampy, and the Cree Indians were so called because they made their settlements along flowing streams.
  11. Wow, this thread has been dead for 4 days?? Just read this: Obama tells Tenn.'s GOP: "Lay off my wife". The attack ad is probably unfair. I'm sure her remarks were off the cuff and not meant the way they came out; but, when you have your wife campaign for you, responses to her words are fair game. If Obama wants to have his wife and kids stay out the campaign, then he shouldn't have them in it.
  12. Amen!! I decided about a year ago Paul Simon might be the best songwriter of the 20th century. Lennon/McCartney together might be better, but Simon's longevity surpasses.
  13. I think that's the Michael Hedges version of "Come Together".
  14. Bob Mould has became too happy to write the kind of music that he was great at making back when he was depressed. Happy for him, but miss the great songs of Workbook, Copper Blue, Beaster, Zen Arcade, etc.
  15. The human characters look a little like the characters in the classic action movie:
  16. I think it's cleaner. After a couple of listens, no songs really grab me that way "New Kid" did on Drag It Up. Overall, I'm really happy w/ it. Need to watch the DVD that came w/ the special edition.
  17. It's a good listen. Better production than Drag It Up. Ken's guitar playing is - as many reviews say - his best yet. Still on my first listen, but a highlight is "She Loves the Sunset". Hope to see them in Omaha June 3.
  18. There were more laugh out loud funny moments than I expected. 2 of my favorite actors (Linney, Hoffman) at the top of their game. Loved watching Laura Linney work out along with the video.
  19. I have no problem piling on this jerk, but I hope no one ever posts my worst day at work on youtube. As a teacher, it's a real possibility.
  20. Looks like the Twinkies area about to take 3 of 4 from the BoSox. Woo Hoo! I like the Sox, but love the Twins.
