  1. I hear what you are saying. Tough choice. But for me, Martin vs. SCGC and the winner is:
  2. You may want to try here for Sad Dracula et. al.

  4. I recently heard a Tiny Vipers tune on XM. I have to admit I am a sucker for striped down acoustic guitars and female singers. Anyone else dig Jesy Fortino and her haunting acoustic music? BTW, her sub-pop site has a couple of free MP3 for those who would like a sample: Tiny Vipers and a couple of cool vids: LanudroMatinee KEXP in studio
  5. Apologies for the double post, but if I had 5k burning a hole in my pocket and wanted a small body, I would consider this fella: That coco is stunning (visually) and has a great RW'y tone.
  6. It is very much my humble opinion, but I have found there are, for all intents and purposes, no bad acoustic guitars > 5k (the only exceptions are the ones with excessive bling). I have not played any of the ones you mentioned, but I own a SCGC D-12 (not small body of course) and it is a ridiculously great guitar. I highly recommend SCGC. Their quality and attention to detail (at least on mine) is unparalleled. I have read that people really love those H-13, but I have not personally played one. I also have a Martin 000-28H - not as small as your 00-28VS, but it is an awesome picker. I

  8. True, but wouldn't you rather see money spent on that kind of research compared to moon water research? I would. Sure, space exploration is cool but I'd rather see us focus our (increasingly diminishing) resources on saving people right here on Terra Firma - however small the step is.
  9. Ugghh.. I used to be a big defender of Gibson who generally takes a bad rap among guitar snobs. I defended the ludicrous naming conventions, the often shoddy quality, the inflated prices, ... all of it. But more and more, I am loosing my faith. I would suggest that Gibson would do better if it focused on the things that put them into the upper echelon of guitar making. I would suggest having less models. Focus on the classics: Les Paul, SG, LP Jr, J-45, SJ-200, 'Bird, etc.. Make those the best they can be. Leave out the gimmicks. It only tarnishes the (perceived) image. Just my two ce
  10. I think Summerteeth is the perfect record to start people off with. There is something for everyone on that record. "How To Fight Loneliness" is what won over my spouse.
  11. I bought my first Avett record (Emotionalism) a month or two ago and I've been pretty much obsessed with it ever since. I am a sucker for banjos and folk-punk ("Pretty Girl From Chile" is just about perfect. Love the to do the heavy metal coda. Rockin' ). Not sure what to get next. Gleams? or what?
  12. I heard they were gonna fess up and say we never went there.
  13. Yeah, tougher than it looks. To make financial ends meet, my wife is gonna have to work OT (an oddly double-edged sword: thankful that she is at a job where they beg her to do OT, but sad because I know she will get burned out. Besides, I was hoping she could start working only part time. Grrr....) Sorry, I am SoCal. Thanks anyway. I used to half-heartily freelance. Now I am going to whole-heartily freelance. Anyone need structural engineering services? Very true. In my grumpy short-sightedness, I did overlook this bright side. My company has shrank from 22 employees to 6 over the last
  14. Yep. Went to 32 hours a week. Grrr... To quote the company email because "we ran out of work". Help, SuperObama! Help! I guess friday means more of this & this Is that a bright side? I'm looking ...

  17. I have many drunken memories of me and my friends yelling "DAYYYYYYYYYY AFTER TODAYYYYYYYY...." We used to (drunkenly) yell "ADD IT UP" at any bar cover band we would run across.

  20. I thought it was a open tuning at first listen, but I'm not convinced. Look at . At 37 seconds in, he plays the Eb at (what I'll call) first position (3x0323) then to Eb at 11th at 55 seconds. Also interesting in this evidence at the second "not going far", he plays the wrong chord (at first) at 29 seconds (wrong chord at 6th fret) then quickly adjusts to the 5th fret. The barre chord fingering does indicate perhaps drop D (?). Other evidence What do you guys think?
