Monsters of Folk (James, Oberst & Ward)
Three dollars and 63 cents replied to Wild Frank's topic in Someone Else's Song
I bought the album from Amazon and am giving it a first listen. I'm not crazy about the first track, but I'm a third of the way in and the others are all terrific, to my ears at least. -

I haven't seen this posted anywhere here yet, but Carla Bozulich's band Evangelista will be opening the November 6 show in Brussels. Their insane tour schedule will prevent them from playing more than that night, but I was pretty thrilled to see that pairing at least once. There's a pretty good chance a sold out Wilco crowd will get to hear Nels make some noise

Wow, the bonus material for that looks excellent. I'll definitely be asking for the super deluxe version for Christmas. I was never a big fan of The Three Sunrises, but I'm disappointing Love Comes Tumbling isn't included, though that's just about all that's missing. U2 will be back next summer, I think. I'll catch them then if at all possible. I think I really only want to see U2 one more time. All I want is to get to hear Bad live. It's been my favorite song since I was 14, and even though it was on the set list for two of the four shows I saw on the last tour, they never played it. For a

Aren't they supposed to reissue Achtung Baby sometime this year, too? I need to replace my copy (this will be at least my third, maybe my fourth copy of it), but I'm trying to hold off for the remaster. I'm looking forward to the UF remaster, much more than I did any of the others. I have the super deluxe version of the Joshua Tree, but I still haven't gotten around to getting the first three albums. I know I will eventually, but I feel like there's no rush. I still have that Boston ticket up for grabs if anyone's interested. At this point, The set lists from the two Chicago shows looked

I have a really good seat for next Monday's show in Boston. It's in the sixth row of section 109, which is around the 50 yard line on the Edge's side. I was able to sell my ticket for Sunday, but I really can't afford tolose the full price of this. I'm definitely open to offers. I'm disappointed I can't make the trip, but work is way too crazy right now for me to cancel a day of classes for a show.

No reports from these shows?

Not by me, unfortunately

Yeah, I don't really get why the media seems more interested in Spencer lately than they do in the rest of the band. Jeff isn't the first musician to be a good dad. It's great that he is, but I don't really feel like that's anybody's business. And I think it's a much less interesting angle than, say, the fact that every band member is involved with other musical projects. It's kind of weird that they didn't even mention any of the other guys by name, let alone talk to them. Then again, we have no idea how much was edited out, either. I liked all the clips, though, and I do have to give the

Part of me is glad to see Wilco finally getting some mainstream attention, but an equal part of me would really like more than 1/6 of Wilco to be getting that attention.

Ithaca on a night when I don't have to get up early the next morning -
I got mine at the Wegmans in Ithaca. It must be store policy to hide it way in the back, because that's where I found it, too

Is that the Sears portrait-esque picture?

They're opening for M. Ward, I believe. And if it weren't for outrageous hotel prices, I'd be there

A head's up for anyone planning to catch Nels's shows with Tim Berne and Jim Black at the Stone--his website still shows that they're supposed to take place tomorrow night at 8 and 10, but the Stone's website is showing that they've been bumped up to tonight at 8 and 10 and Me'Shell N'degeocello and Brandon Ross will be playing tomorrow.

I heard my first Wilco song on WXPN. On good days, I could very faintly pick up the signal back when I was still living with my parents, and I'd listen for hours. They're largely responsible for broadening my taste in music.

I believe the Hammerstein shows go on sale August 14, and the two dates after those not until September. I'm not sure about the earlier dates. They look too tightly packed to add any others, too, though I was hoping for a Philadelphia show. New York is just so expensive that I can usually only afford to go twice a year, and I usually save those trips for jazz and experimental shows and go to Philadelphia for other shows.

from Pitchfork: I'm not sure how I feel about this. I haven't been paying attention to any of their recent shows, but based on that documentary of their reunion tour, I figured there wasn't a chance they'd ever tour again. Maybe I'm still bitter because I had fourth row center seats for a show on their last tour that got canceled. According to Pitchfork, the shows "will feature a set that includes the entire 1989 classic album and its related B-sides." Is that worth braving New York during Thanksgiving week? Hmmm. The Lamp Post Inn in Ann Arbor is the scariest place I've ever stayed in my entire life. It's the cheapest place in AA, I think, but I think you'd be safer sleeping outside the closed bus station than you would be staying there.
-
Or plan a crazy road trip I'm hopeful for some late winter/early spring dates, though. It seems like it's been awhile since they've hit a lot of the major northeast cities, so I'm sure they're going to next time around.
-
I'm pretty sure they're taking most if not all of September off. I know Nels has some recording projects planned, including a live Singers album and possibly something else. I think we've gotten all the Wilco on the east coast that we're going to in 2009.

North Adams is sort of in the middle of nowhere. I'm surprised they're not playing in Northampton. I'm still thinking about that Bethlehem show next week, since I'm going to be at my parents' house about an hour away.
