  1. It's totally and completely irrational for me to hope for Carla Bozulich's band Evangelista to be picked to open, and I'd get mad when few people paid attention to their sets, but they've got a new album out October 5 and they deserve so much more attention than they got for their last album. And, you know, it would make my life easier if bands I love who never come to my town would at least tour together, so I had to make fewer crazy roadtrips
  2. I think his solo album Coward earlier this year proved he's the king of the overdubs
  3. I'm pretty sure I'm coming out for this. I've been looking for an excuse to visit a friend out there, and a Wilco show during time I already have off from teaching is a good enough one
  4. I'm a writer and was thinking of it in terms of writing--I tend to overwrite, then go back and trim away what isn't my strongest material. With his last few albums, I've felt like he could've done the same.
  5. If he learned to edit, he'd be brilliant. As it is, Cardinology is about half great songs and half throwaways. It would've been a great EP.
  6. I found it in my grocery store, but I'm sure you could find it at most chain bookstores and even the big box stores like Target and Wal-Mart and the like. I'd say it's probably the easiest music magazine to find besides Rolling Stone. I was surprised to find it already--I figured it wouldn't turn up here until next week, since I'm in a pretty small city.
  7. I can just see the tapers' tracklists then: Bull Black Nova>Spiders (75:15)
  8. And then Jeff will kick out Glenn and replace him with Spencer? I agree with you, to be entirely dishonest.
  9. I know I was hoping they'd coincide with the long weekend I have at the beginning of the month, but that didn't work out. If the Minneapolis show is on a weekend, I may try to make it out for that one.
  10. Wilco is not Jeff Tweedy and five hired hands. This is something you don't seem to get. Don't feel bad--much of the mainstream media doesn't seem to get it, either.
  11. I found a lone copy hiding at the top of the music section in the magazine aisle at my grocery store, turned backwards
  12. I vote we rename this thread "Let's speculate about something none of us can possibly know anything about, since we're neither psychic nor members of Wilco." None of us can possibly know the answer to this. I don't think Nels even knows right now. And if you think Nels is getting "bigger" than Jeff, try going to see him play in any of his non-Wilco projects. Last summer I saw the Singers play to a crowd of 32, including venue employees. This isn't unusual. You're kidding yourself if you think Nels is going to go off and become ridiculously famous after Wilco. He'll go back to his jazz and e
  13. Were you the people on the end of the row on Nels's side? If so, I was sitting right next to you. I don't mind occasional pictures and I usually take some myself (I forgot my camera in my car on Sunday, which I'm still kicking myself for), but when people seem more interested in taking pictures than paying attention to the concert and have no shame in holding up their cameras and obstructing people's views for 30 seconds or a minute waiting to get a good shot, that's just rude. There were two rows of guys right in front of me the whole night who seemed more interested in talking about the k
  14. There are two new shows listed in Italy for mid-November
  15. They only major markets they've played since the album came out are LA and Brooklyn. I have a hunch they'll probably stick to bigger cities for the fall and winter. And Ithaca, since I now live within easy walking distance of the theater where they'd play
  16. I was in Wilmington last weekend, then came home and hauled ass to move to a new apartment and still make it up to this show. I was exhausted Sunday and really just wanted a lazy day, but I'm so glad I made the almost seven-hour roundtrip for this one. I was in the third row behind the pit, slightly off to Nels's side, and I thought the sound was much more even than it had been in Wilmington, where I'd been front row in front of Nels and could barely hear John and couldn't hear Pat at all. The venue was definitely strange, though. It felt like a cave, and I pity the people back on the lawn, be
  17. I could drive an hour to see this tour in Syracuse this weekend, or three to see Wilco. I'd love to see Willie Nelson again, but Dylan wasn't worth the $65 I paid to see him last summer, and I have no interest in Mellencamp. I'll be in Lewiston Sunday.
  18. They played a snippet of Walken for a walk during the Phillies game Saturday night
  19. I didn't think the Electric Factory allowed cameras, so I didn't bring mine on Thursday. I really wish I would have, because I could've gotten some great pictures. That was the best show I've been to in quite awhile.
  20. I was front row right in front of Lee for the Philly show last night. It was loose and loud and a lot of fun. They opened with Catholic Block, then blazed through all of The Eternal, along with Death Valley '69, The Sprawl, 'Cross the Breeze, and Silver Rocket. Thurston screwed up the lyrics on both Poison Arrow and Anti-Orgasm and Kim sounded a bit hoarse, but it was still a top-notch show. I'm all bruised up and sore from jumping around so much! It's a shame they're not playing much older stuff this time around, but the new album is so good that I didn't mind it too much. A lot of my favor
  21. I'll be there with two other VCers in tow. There are a handful of hotels downtown, about a five minute drive from the stadium, but this close to the show, it might be tough to find a deal.
