  1. The tour opened tonight in Barcelona. It sounds like the stage setup is gigantic and quite impressive. And even more impressive? They beamed footage from the space station during the show. Here's the set list: 1. Breathe 2. No Line on the Horizon 3. Get On Your Boots 4. Magnificent 5. - Beautiful Day 6. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For 7. >>>Dedicated to Michael Jackson 8. In A Little While 9. Unknown Caller 10. The Unforgettable Fire 11. City of Blinding Lights 12. Vertigo 13. ...Crazy Tonight (Remixed) 14. Sunday Bloody Sunday 15. Pride (In the Name Of Love) 16.
  2. I listened to the leak a few times, but not that much, since the sound quality wasn't that good. I picked up the CD today, and I'm really appreciating how well mixed it is. I'm hearing so much that I missed in the lesser-quality mp3 files, and I'm really appreciating how richly layered the album is. Is it my favorite Wilco album? No. But there's no doubt it's a very well-crafted album, and one I know I'm going to be enjoying for a long time.
  3. The only thing that could possibly make it better would be if it was merged with the "ZOMG WILCO IS PRETENTIOUS AND SKIPPED MY TOWN!!!!!!111!!" thread
  4. Jeff was playing Solitaire and Everlasting solo in the winter. I really like Solitaire, so I'm hoping it will make an appearance at one of the shows I'm going to.
  5. It's way too soon to tell. My initial impression is that while there are more songs I really like on W(TA), SBS might flow better. Ask me this question again in six months and it will be a lot easier to answer, I think.
  6. I was going to pre-order it, then I decided I was better off just going and buying it locally. I usually do pre-orders for my favorite bands, but there was nothing from either the label or through Kung Fu that made it worth the price of shipping and the uncertainty of when it would arrive.
  7. I agree. It's always surprised me that he doesn't play much (any?) acoustic guitar with Wilco, since albums like The Inkling and Coward and even a few of the quieter pieces on the Singers' last album show his acoustic skill. This reminds me that I still haven't gotten around to getting a copy of his acoustic trio album with Jim McAuley (sp?) and the late Rod Poole, which I've been meaning to. Also, it would be great if this wouldn't turn into yet another "let's complain about Nels" thread, because haven't we had enough of those already? It's not there yet, but it seems like it's heading in
  8. Here's mine from the third St. Louis show last year:
  9. If I like a poster for a show I'm at, I always buy it that night. Usually it will get banged up by the time I get it home, but I know there's always a chance that night's poster will sell out and never make it to the website, and I don't want to risk it. I said I was done buying posters since I'd filled up most of my wall space here, but I'm moving to a bigger apartment in a few weeks, so I may get another one this summer.
  10. I posted a link to this in the Watt & Nels thread yesterday, along with a link to a good video interview with him from Bonnaroo. I never know whether to start a new thread when I find that kind of stuff (or when someone sends it my way, which was the case with both of these pieces) or to just put it in a thread where we're already talking about him. I hate to hear him doubting himself a bit, too, though he may have been joking. And even if he wasn't, I think he's one of those artists who uses self-doubt to propel him forward instead of hold him back. If he's not happy with what he's alr
  11. I wonder if we saw the same interview recently? Two recent good interviews with Nels, one print and one video: A print interview with LAist here. An eight-minute interview with 93XRT from Bonnaroo . Nels's website is showing that the Singers will be playing at Cafe DuNord in San Francisco September 3rd and 4th and that both shows will be recorded (presumably for that live release). Also: he'll be at the Stone in NYC again on July 31 with Tim Berne and Jim Black, both the 8 and 10 pm sets. I wasn't planning to go down for that show with Watt, but I might have trouble resisting three sets in
  12. I think Beck might be one of the only contemporary artists I'd trust to cover that album. Sunday Morning is one of my favorites by VU and a song I never could've imagined anyone other than Lou Reed singing, but Beck's version is lovely, too. I'm looking forward to hearing the rest.
  13. The last I heard, Watt still needed to record vocals, but that was awhile ago, so hopefully it's just about done and will be out sooner rather than later. I haven't heard anything about the release date for the album the Singers recorded in March, so I'm guessing that won't be out until next year. Too much unreleased Nels stuff!
  14. I came in here to post about the Le Poisson Rouge show I'd love to see Nels play with Jenny again, but I'm not sure I'm going to be able to make it down for this. That's the one problem with Wilco touring so much this year--Nels has almost no time to tour with any of his other projects. He'll be playing the Angel City Jazz Festival in L.A. September 7 with the Singers, but I haven't heard about any other shows besides these two in NYC in August.
  15. There are no decent venues in Binghamton, but the State Theatre here in Ithaca would be perfect. I doubt it's going to happen this time around, though, because they've already announced their 09-10 concert season. The Landmark Theatre in Syracuse would be good, too. They've played the Midwest pretty sparsely recently, though, so I think it's their turn for some shows in the fall. It would be nice if they came up the east coast again this year, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
  16. That's funny. I was just thinking about that book last night and remembering how someone recommended it to me awhile back and I haven't gotten around to reading it yet. I'll have to add it to my to-read list. I went to the library yesterday. Even though I've been reading mostly nonfiction recently, I decided to stock up on novels. First up: I read the first 65 pages last night, and I'm already sucked in. Only about 500 pages to go
  17. I'm a little strapped for cash this summer, but I'm hoping I can afford to head down to the city for this show. Look at the little bear in Watt's pocket!
  18. There are a few albums I've been wanting to check out that I haven't gotten a chance to yet, but so far these are my favorites of the year: Sonic Youth--The Eternal Nels Cline--Coward Andrew Bird--Useless Creatures (the bonus disc for the deluxe edition of Noble Beast, which I think is a lot better than the album itself) Neko Case--Middle Cyclone Wilco--W(TA) M. Ward--Hold Time Things I've liked but haven't loved: U2--No Line on the Horizon The Hold Steady--A Positive Rage Alex Cline--Continuation Bobb Bruno--Dreamt On I got that Ben Kweller album from Amazon as one of their daily deals.
  19. I had a subscription to Spin for awhile when I was in college, but I let it lapse. I've picked up one or two issues since and haven't been wowed enough to resubscribe. But it's probably one of the most widely distributed music magazines aside from Rolling Stone, so it's going to be great exposure for them to get a cover story.
  20. The new Sonic Youth is out Tuesday and is phenomenal. I think there might be a bonus track with the Amazon version, too.
  21. Your drive to Lewiston is less than half of mine, and you're also only four hours to Royal Oak. onan, I definitely feel sympathy for you. I hope at some point you can travel to see the band, or that they come to Poland sometime soon. For everyone who's complaining here, imagine what it would be like if Wilco rarely if ever played in ENTIRE COUNTRY. Complaining about having to make even a three or four hour trip seems pretty petty compared to that.
