  1. Rick Reilly is leaving SI for ESPN, and Dan Patrick is headed to SI. NY Times story
  2. I heard The Shins live shows suck.
  3. Cons: -Andrew Bird has a better voice than Tweedy. Why would you want someone who can sing better than you in your band when they aren't going to be the one singing. It doesn't make sense. -Andrew Bird is a fantastic songwriter in his own right and I'd rather him spend time out in his Illinois barn working on and developing his own stuff. A little collaboration with Wilco would be fine, but a full time member? That's crazy talk. -Why don't we see what this current fantastic lineup could do before trying to add more pieces to the puzzle. Pros: -Andrew Bird is a huge talent. Coul
  4. man, everyone here hates sufjan. I thought it was a really cool cover.
  5. Pat played on one of Andrew's records. I think it would be fine if he came into the studio and did some violin stuff, but nothing more than that. It really wouldn't work and it would be a major waste of talent for Bird to be in Wilco.
  6. It was the best rendition of Nervous Tic Motion of the Head I've seen him do in the 4 times I've seen him.
  7. I know he could apply it to anything/anyone in his life, I'm just saying...if someone were to read the lyrics/hear the song, it would come across Christian-like.
  8. Outside of the first 30 seconds, I'm really diggin Sufjan's version of Ring Them Bells. EDIT- the game show sounding ending is annoying.
  9. I'd start with the self titled BFF and Whatever. Definitely don't start with Messner. As for solo stuff, Songs for Silverman is a lot more laid back than Rockin' the Suburbs. Also, for anyone who cares, Ben reportedly has started working on his new album in Chicago (ditching his own Nashville studio) and is working with producer Brian Deck (Iron and Wine, Modest Mouse, Josh Ritter).
  10. I agree with that guy. There is a verse in John in the Bible about Christ being "the true vine." Who knows what Tweedy really believes, but One True Vine definitely sounds like a song about salvation. Just listen to it.
  11. Girardi, LaRussa, or Mattingly. Take your pick.
  12. I agree. He was shouting unintelligble things all night long. He was RIGHT behind me. But luckily once the music started, he was pretty much drowned out.
  13. Daydreams is such a great album. He said last year he was eventually going to put out another solo album, but with his work with Guster, who knows...
  14. I was glad to be a part of a mass booing of Ohio State football. It felt good.
  15. I have loads more, just going through them now....still have to tone as well. But I really liked this photo.
  16. My friend and I were like, "what are we gonna say to him? what do we talk about?" I just walked up, told him nice show, he signed me ticket. I also talked to him about his show in Nelsonville last night and the new song he was working on, and a real old song he played the other night. Very nice person, very genuine.
  17. That was quite an amazing show. The encores were a terrific ending to a great show. The last 7 songs blew my mind, I've never heard I've Got You, Red-Eyed, In a Future Age, Outtasite. Wow. Also, got to meet Andrew Bird and talk with him briefly after the show. Great to see him up there on Jesus, etc. I have tons of photos. I'll sort through them eventually and post the good ones.
  18. I agree with you that All I Need is a pretty weak track, but I think Videotape is a great closer.
  19. I think that one is the SBS version that was released to "Indie Music Stores" Plus, this new thing isn't supposed to be out til Nov. 12.
  20. WOW. Nels tears up In A Future Age.
  21. Looking for a cheap hollow body electric to mess around with. It's only $120, but it looks like an off brand....Windaroo? Would this be worth it, or could I find something better for the same price? Thanks PS- I know nothing about electric guitars, other than the fact that I want a hollow body because I've played them and I like them. Suggestions?
  22. I've been to a few shows at the Ryman (Ben Folds, Ben Harper, Sufjan). I'm more impressed with that venue more than anything else. Such a great place.
  23. Hopefully, they will let those who bought SBS download it for free.
