  1. Actually I think you will particularly like their working class lyrics, which are not BS, since all of these guys still have day jobs. In fact Brian Heinneman is a driver for a place that customizes cars and vans and his new song, The Driver is about that job. The rest of the guys also work as bar tenders, in a tee shirt shop, etc. Definitely go up to Mark the drummer and say hello from me. Eventually the concert/interview DVD that WhiskeyBender shot will be released. I think the interview parts are particularly interesting. Brian has some interesting insights into the days of the St.
  2. Absolutely. In fact the BoRox are riding a late career high. Their new album is excellent. Don't miss them and say hello to the band from me. LouieB
  3. Senator Cougar....yea, now we are talking.... Actually this sounds like the wackiest idea yet....then again. LouieB
  4. Wow, how did a thread on Marah turn into a rant on Jay Farrar vs. Jeff Tweedy? Sure there will be a reunion of UT, someday, someway, when both artists are bored or need the money. LouieB
  5. It sure is nice working at home today....sun and a pile of LPs... LouieB
  6. Saw Hag open for Dylan a few years back. He is certainly one of the last of the great old classic country singers. Crazy Heart is a great movie. LouieB
  7. Willie produced by Booker T...on LP. Digging deep into the stacks of stuff I have bought but not listened to. LouieB
  8. Actually the original Capitol LP.....nice sounding. LouieB
  9. In the original mono...just found this yesterday. LouieB
  10. I had no idea it took so long to make. I always thought of it as a kinda cute throwaway kind of song. LouieB
  11. It really didn't help that even the related members of the band couldn't even get along. Meanwhile the rest of the band kept getting fired or leaving. I would have to say that this won't be any kind of breakout for them; they are barely a band. LouieB
  12. Someone needs to start waterboarding Cheney so he starts to tell the truth for a change. LouieB
  13. Term limits are an idea that sounds good on paper, but is essentially undemocratic (except in the case of President??). If people want to keep electing a douche bag representative or a statesman over and over again, that is the perogative of those being represented. LouieB
  14. If there isn't one there should be. I don't see any reason NOT to criticize Obama, particularly for his cozy relationship with Wall Street and the Bankers and every other power broker. But dissatisfaction with what is going on is not equal on all sides. Some folks act like Obama IS the problem. He is simply trying to keep this thing afloat with far less support than anyone imagined. (By the way Bayh quitting is more bad news... or is it??) Things are very broken in Washington and all over, but it has little or nothing to do with the actual Obama presidency. Much of what we are seei
  15. As always...life is too short. This guy was younger than I am now. LouieB
  16. Someone has to do it. Clearly the nuance is missing here as usual. See my response to jc4prez on the other thread. Obama and the Dems aren't moving as fast as those on the left want, but they are moving plenty fast enough for the right, who think he has to be stopped before he destroys this country. I am not now, nor have I ever blanketly supported everything Obama does or doesn't do. But when President Palin is inaugurated, we will look back on the Obama years with nostalgia. We will be having this argument in another two or three years. When the disenchanted Obama base stays home
  17. Okay fine. So what we are talking about here are really two different sets of civil rights. Admittedly the US government (and not all of this can be either controled or turned on a dime by Obama) hasn't changed some of the Bush era policies (and actually policies that have been in place for decades). Once again, read Taylor Branch's books. At the same time Johnson was pushing through major civil rights legislation the FBI was spying their asses off and attempting to undermine grassroots organizations and their leadership. It is un-realistic (sadly) to expect one administration to change
  18. Wait, isn't that what the current administration is doing?? Oh yea, that's what "Democracy Now" says..... LouieB
  19. Wow man.... The very fact of his election is a huge civil rights victory. No matter what you think about him, his politics, his year in office or anything else political, most of us who are a bit older could not have conceived of the Pres being of color 20 or 30 years ago. Perhaps it is even progress that you think there is nothing unsual about him being elected, but not even 50 yeara ago black (and some white) people were being killed simply for the right of blacks to vote, not mention eat, sleep, go to the bathroom, etc., (much less marry or even have sex with...)with white people. I su
  20. Talking about crib notes on her hand or any other place is simply not even interesting. All speakers need and usually should have some notes to speak from, so big fucking deal. It is the content (or the confusing content) of what she says that should be paid attention to. Frankly even Obama should be able to talk more concisely without a teleprompter. Needless to say I dig Barack, but I get tired of hearing him stumble over impromptu answers. He is a far better speaker than W was/is, but the art of speaking clearly and consisely without heming and hawing is a lost art. LouieB
  21. I simply can't wait for a Palin candidacy, with or without the corporate/facsist backing. Okay so those of us on the left are "deeply disappointed" by Obama, well given the only choice there will be in two years (yea it is going to be THAT soon) it may give everyone a chance to pause once again and figure out that Obama and the wimpy Dems, who are the real problem at the moment and aren't going to be looking so bad. Sure, Obama and the so called Democratic majority hasn't exactly bowled us over, but just wait. Remember it was not those Supreme Court members nominated by the Democratic adm
  22. Don't panic everyone.... The pundits are saying that the Republicans, pushed hard by the tea baggers, are going to swept back into power and save the republic...yeah!! I can't wait.... LouieB
  23. One of the great politic films of all times. My father took me to see it in the theater. I took my daughter to see in the theater too. LouieB
