  1. Barbara Koppel is a great great political documentarian. I personally really like Harlan County USA. I think all kids should see her films. LouieB
  2. I actually saw an Up With People show when I was in college. this thread jogged a memory I had long suppressed. LouieB
  3. Yea, a sold B+ over all, which is better than groups like this usually do (like the Rolling Stones...). Given that they are now pretty old, I enjoyed the show. Truly though it is time for younger artists to be slotted in. But given everything, it was a good time for me. (Considering I was still a teenager when the Who had their first hits, it might be time to bring some younger folks on....) LouieB
  4. Holy crap, that is the same length of time I have been married. Really sorry to hear this, since I have had really great interactions with you here on and off VC, even though we have not met in real life.. Life is weird, that is all I can say. Hang in there. LouieB
  5. Next up for Bobby and Joannie, half time at Super Bowl 45. LouieB
  6. Happy Birthday!!!! When is your 331/3?? LouieB
  7. I guess we aren't talking about documentarians, which would be a huge list. LouieB
  8. Or just about any year really.....although it is a bit harder to get away with these days. LouieB
  9. Intersection of this thread and the greatest studio recordings thread..... Chuck Berry's Chess material!!! Most bands wish they could make records that sound as great as those Chuck Berry sides.... LouieB
  10. That was sort of my thought, considering The Basement Tapes is hardly the greatest sounding studio album ever... LouieB
  11. I like Yo La Tengo, but the album they did with Jad Fair is unlistenable. LouieB
  12. Strangely I miss the video era. LouieB
  13. Autumn is one of four seasons, I bet Tweedy also refers to the other seasons in songs as well. Someone other than me can do that kind of a search. LouieB
  14. Anyone who takes a work of art as a reason to kill someone is dangerous, no matter how quiet and composed they seemed. The work itself is not dangerous. LouieB
  15. Not reading CITR because of MD Chapman is like not listening to the Beatles because of Charles Manson.... LouieB
  16. Happy Birthday!!! The years come and go so fast. LouieB
  17. What a monstrosity of a show. Everything looked proto-facist to me. LouieB
  18. I like horchata too, well the drink, not the song....which is sorta stupid. LouieB
  19. Prolific? How do you figure. Not based on his actual published work at this point. Salinger was one of my favorites from a way back. Sad day. Now perhaps more of his work will actually come out. LouieB
  20. Waronwar is part of a band called The Chairs which released their second full length CD called Nine Ways, which is excellent. I don't have a link, but he should post up on this. For a bunch of young guys they really have their shit together I think. LouieB
  21. And without Linda Ronstat having a hit single with Heart Like a Wheel, none of us may have heard of them. LouieB
  22. Neil was interesting on the Haiti telethon too. LouieB
  23. It is kind of strange that this thread got so little traffic....even if the McGarrigles weren't people's thing, Rufus and Martha have sure gotten big.... LouieB
