Name some classic singers from the 60s and 70s that you like...

Good list. Give me some time I will think of more. Anyone interested in folk singers?? LouieB -
Believe it or not I have spent alot of time this weekend thinking about this vid (although not yet re-viewing it) and I understand all about comic book violence. I saw Star Trek last night, which is a fairly violent movie and also had to sit through endless pre-views of all the post apocolyptic movies coming out in the near future (and man there are ALOT) and it isn't the violence that is upsetting (although it should be), but it is the realism that is upsetting and the intent. Domestic violence is an all too real event to be lightly portrayed as a game. There was a really moving story on fr

I plan to cave just as soon as I have the time to download it, find the stream on Wilcoworld or have or have someone hand me a CD. LouieB

Yea this vid is a laugh a minute....I see that....domestic violence and the victim (no matter which gender it is) returning to their abuser is hysterical. LouieB

Please post up your experiences under the other thread for others to read at a later time...thanks. LouieB

I doubt it. He is making good money, having a ball playing in a big time rock band, and I am sure his solo work has never sold better than it does now. He has it all. LouieB

I am not taking time to read this article, because the one quote I read in a post about Wilco being a jam band and improvising only proves that the writer never has seen Wilco. What Wilco does isn't improv and band members, with the exception of the guitarists rarely take solos. Nearly all of what Wilco does is well planned out. LouieB

Which came first? I remember Mathew Sweet....(which was supposedly from a Morrissey single or maybe the Smiths.... Unfortunately mixing in vinyl sounds appears to have made a big come back. I heard a teaser on this on NPR the other day. LouieB

I posted this up under another thread...I plan to buy this album and never listen to it.... How is that for inane?? LouieB
-
Rather than wait until this comes out, i think after reading all the negative shit about this album I may never listen to it. I plan to buy it, just not listen to it.... LouieB
-
Sure, once I get home. I thought both sides were from the album, but I could well be wrong. LouieB

Actually there is a 7 inch single that was supposed to be out on record store day that is floating around. I bought a copy the other day, but have not yet listened to it. LouieB

Yup get Beltman in here. Art can be offensive that's for sure. Some art is misogynist and some of it is crap. In this case the clip itself is very artfully done, but offensive none the less. I suppose you can interpret a woman being beat up and nearly killed (I assume the guy is going to inject her with drugs or something and has already beaten her up pretty good and continues to do so on screen), then she turns the table on him (pun intended) and runs out and eventually hits him with a car, meaning she is NOW undercontrol of the situation, BUT despite all that violence and apparent hate

Listen I see your point and I understand (somewhat) your frustration, but why would a conversation about whether a movie hits the mark or not be a problem. Also it is NOT offensive to talk about it in real world terms about this clip, which is that a guy threating to kill or beat up a woman, is really about domestic abuse. It is. Is there a point to it; is there a point to this piece of cinema (let's assume it is art for the moment...) showing in graphic terms a very violent encounter??; maybe. But maybe that point is to point out the way individuals react to being controled by violence an

Well you did very well. I guess I should go there more often. Those are some real finds and very reasonable prices. Maybe the move has helped Val revitalize her stock. Check out Old School REcords 7446 Madison St. Nice people and good stock, I think. Lou

I don't think anyone should take this personally. I mean a visual representation of violence is bound to strike different people differently. (All puns intended...) Clearly other people have also taken offense at this vid, despite it's wonderful sleazy production values and ambiguous ending. This starting a conversation about Stockholm Syndrome and domestic violence isn't a bad thing really. LouieB

No problem from me on this, they are all worth everyone's time. I just don't know what classic singers of the 60s and 70s means I guess. LouieB -
and me.... ...your wife is NOT overreacting.... I know Tarantino is like some sort of pop culture god, but I find his films sort of stupid. I was thinking this same thing this morning, but since really I am not a big fan of his, my opinion remains the same. The women know what the deal is..... LouieB

If you have an 11 year old and luggage, I would grab a cab to the hotel. It isn't all that far and you can take the CTA everywhere else during your trip. it is not close to the el anyway and taking the el and a bus could be a real hassle. Once you figure out the routes you could take it the bus back, but since our rapid transit isn't really that cheap anymore a cab won't set you back much more than the bus and el and be a heck of alot easier if you are just showing up. Heck the el isn't that close to the train station either. Of all places to stay in Chicago this is one of he nicer area

Many (if not all) of these folks got started in the 40s and 50s (some in the 30s such as Billie and Ella.) LouieB -
This vid has nothing to do with the song, which is what also makes it not so great. Thanks at least for thinking about supporting me on this. I can see how people like this video, but frankly watch it a few more times, it really has little or no point. Stay with your abuser?? Not the message any thinking artist would really make. LouieB

For sure...Wilco isn't the Beatles, they still need to work to make money, which includes alot of touring. All of the members of the band have side projects so there is really no need for them to break up to fuel their own ambitions. LouieB

What is the point? Guy tries to kill his girlfriend, girlfriend tries to kill her boyfriend, she gets away, decides to hit him with the car on the way out of town, then has second thoughts and goes back and kisses him. This is exactly the kind of behavior that domestic violence professionals try and overcome. Yea, yea I know, this is art so it doesn't count..... LouieB

Good reason for a trip to the Northwest that is for sure....this crossed my mind!! LouieB

Val's was an indie store where there were fewer stores like it. In recent years there have been lots of such stores open in Chicago. She is a hoot I will grant you that. LouieB
