So I understand not liking jazz or (modern) classical, but I have a show everyone will like tomorrow June 20. on the MIdday Mixtape Show. (wnur.org or TuneIn or 89.3 FM at 12 PM Central time) I'm going to play lots and lots of rock and other stuff like that (with a bit of weirdness thrown in for good measure. I had requests for more Allman Brothers, The Fugs, and the Brits (which will include the Stones, Kinks, and Joy Division). Then some cuts from the Monterrey Pop Fest from 50 years ago this past weekend including Otis Redding, the Byrds, Hendrix, The Animals, Jefferson Airplane and Hugh

\The Classical and Beyond show this Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 1-4 PM CT on WNUR 89.3 FM, or wnur.org or Tunein will pay tribute to the work of French author Marcel Proust, author of the monumental novel "In Search of Lost Time" with music from Proust's contemporaries, friends, and inspirations. Those composers will include Camille Saint Saens, Maurice Ravel, Cesar Franck, Gabriel Faure, and Renaldo Hahn. Cohosts John Martin and Lou Berkman will be playing works by these composers and discussing their relationship to Proust. This is a new and improved show; since we did more show prep. The musi

It's time for the Devil's Radio with DJs RosieB and LouieB on WDBX.org from Carbondale May 18th at 10-12 PM central time. Get ready for a whole bunch of new music brought in by Lou (or new to him) and some fun intergenerational patter. Listen in for music from Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, Nico, Electric Flag, Luna, the Cure, On Fillmore, Sharon Jones, Nikki Sudden, the Grateful Dead, etc. Who knows what we'll play. Maybe not even us until we put it on. Should be a late night gas.

LouieB replied to LouieB's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Glad you had an okay experience at Laurie's. I am part time and mostly evenings. You met John the owner and Paul one of the main clerks..Glad you found stuff. We all work pretty hard to make sure there are plenty of interesting LPs in the bins, especially since we aren't all that big. LouieB -

Back again this week on April 25th at 12-2 PM Central time wnur.org This week is more sorts of odds and ends including some segments on jump blues and western Swing. Look for Klaus Nomi, Pete Seeger, the Hi-Los, Sharon Jones, On Fillmore, and whatever else strikes me as something to mess up the radio waves. Requests? Should be fun as always. I think the news is on at noon so 12:15 is a good time to tune in. LouieB

What took you so long! Classic albums you just discovered
LouieB replied to remphish1's topic in Someone Else's Song
As some of you know I am now working at Laurie's Planet of Sound record store. What is still selling at a furious clip to customers of all ages is a mix of classics I hardly expected folks to still be interested in anymore. We sell every used copy of Tapestry just about as soon as it comes in the store. Simon and Garfunkel, Springsteen, Steely Dan, Madonna, Hall and Oates, Billy Joel, and the usual suspects (Beatles, Beach Boys, Bowie) all sell well. Despite most of these albums being decades old, there is constant interest in them. We have completely sold out of Bill Evans for some reaso -
The Mixtape Show is back for an early edition on Saturday April 15, 2017 at 7-9 AM CT on www.wnur.org, 89.3 FM or TuneIn. On this show DJ LouieB swill host Megan Powell and Chris Perry (since we had so much fun the last two times) to spin some of their favorite music both new and old. Expect to hear well known musicians such as Patti Smith, Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder, Tom Rush, Chuck Berry, Eddie Hendricks and Antonio Carlos Jobim; along with less famous musicians such as The Veldt, Eryn Allen Kane, The Apartments, Nikki Sudden, Laura Marling, and the Dust Bunnies. Not only will we play Chris an

The City of Neighborhoods Project
LouieB replied to cityofneighborhoodsproject's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Infested is right. In fact going by there at midnight was nightmare inducing because folks would feed them and they would come out in packs. It seemed like there were hundreds, but it was probably just dozens, which for raccoons, who are fairly solitary creatures was so weird. Sadly I believe they euthanized some and relocated some and they are now gone. LouieB -

I live nearby. It's a great spot and will be better when some of the plantings mature. LouieB -
Before I forget, I am back on the MIdday Mixtape Show this Tuesday April 11 at 12-2 central time on wnur.org or 89.3 if you happen to be in Chicago. Back to the old format for a week playing new music (Valerie June, Old 97s, Brokeback, Lee Fields, Josh Abrams, etc.), old music (Coleman Hawkins, Elvis Presley, Canray Fontenot, Louis Jordan, Ramsey Louis, Sippie Wallace, and many others), plus assorted silly stuff (Lord Buckley, Harmonicats, Mermaid Avenue from the Klezmatics, etc.) Tune in for my crazy commentary, occasional miscues; almost all on vinyl. Come on - it's all fun. LouieB
