Thanks all for clearing this up for me, that has to be the deal. The song in question is punky sounding, but not totally Clash-like and frankly while watching a movie sometimes it is hard to catch the incidental or background music. When that popped up at the end, I thought...what the fuck? How did I miss a Clash song? Now I know. LouieB

Lester Young and Count Basie on Mosaic...1936-1940
LouieB replied to LouieB's topic in Someone Else's Song
Agreed again. But some of the former independents that are gobbled up by corporations don't give a shit about jazz any longer. I would have to say that I don't entirely understand the Blue Note reissue program, since that material IS still in print mostly. But for obscure labels that disappeared long ago, this kind of reissue is perfect, but I mostly agree with you. I don't think i would have bought this Basie/Young thing except my Basie/Young on Columbia is spotty and this got really sterling reviews when it came out, so I did an impulse buy and realized it wasn't entirely out of print, bu -
whoa anything exciting?? Yea, it is the kind of album you can listen to over and over and hear different stuff each time too. LouieB

Lester Young and Count Basie on Mosaic...1936-1940
LouieB replied to LouieB's topic in Someone Else's Song
You have a point about the art on Mosaic (kinda dull), but the art is really not the point of these reissues; it is the music and the way it is collected. When they collect the complete Blue Note or Capital or some other work of an artist it is for the completeness of the sessions, etc., that they are going for and the liner notes, which are usually fairly scholarly, stand in for the original liner notes, etc. Much of the music on some of these sets (and there are hundreds) is also available in other reissue formats, so yea, it is possible to buy the single disks with original art work an -
Now we are talking. I used to listen to that all the time, but haven't in recent years. LouieB

Hmmm...okay that could be it. It appeared that song was titled MIA, but there was no recognizable Clash number in the movie and you know how fast the music credits scroll by. thanks. That may clear up that mystery. LouieB

I have a Clash question actually. In the movie "Slumdog Millionaire" there is a song called "MIA" that is credited to Strummer and the rest of the Clash members. It does not seem to be on any of the releases I have (I have all the early to later releases on LP, but not every single thing ever released) so I was just wondering if anyone knows where this song is from. Lester Young and Count Basie on Mosaic...1936-1940
LouieB replied to LouieB's topic in Someone Else's Song
Really the only way to get it is through Mosaic Records website. They do a limited run of most stuff (generally 5000) so when it is gone it goes out into the collectors market and they are more expensive. Alot of eBay action with old Mosaic releases, particularly the vinyl ones. It looks like this one is still available. If you like this kind of music I strongly recommend it, maybe a late holiday gift to yourself. LouieB -
So we have spent a bit of time talking about the Mosaic box set of Anthony Braxton, but it seems like a few words need to be said about another excellent box set from this label, which is the Lester Young/Count Basie sessions on Columbia, Okeh, and other associated labels. Needless to say this isn't the latest hip stuff, but in the entire history of jazz (and popular music in general) there are few figures hipper than these two cats and certainly few musicians who are more influential than Lester Young in general. I picked this set up a few months back after reading about it in the New Yo

I am totally with you on this. He needs to do those two things to get the gay/lesbian community back on his side. Meanwhile this is an interesting take from Melissa Etheridge... LouieB

It would certainly put a damper on any come-back or Jackson's reunion.... LouieB -
I'll say. Makes me want to go just for that, although I have seen nearly all those groups a few times in Chicago. Maybe a Wilco or two will show up, who knows. LouieB

A new album can't come soon enough.... LouieB -
This is kind of fucked up I admit. But the idea that Barack is playing to the entire country is trumping what should be his sensitivity to the gay community. This doesn't seem to make sense, but there was an article in the Trib this morning that evangelicals are worried that Obama is going to move the country toward gay marriage and there will be pornography all over the place (isn't it there now??) Trying to reasure these folks may not be the right (no pun intended) thing to do, but it is an olive branch of sorts. If we get to freaked out by everything that goes on we will be paralized a
