  4. There is so much cool shit out on the web I wish I make the time to actually check it all out. (I have spent all this weekend moving my LPs to the basement in anticipation of painting the living room. I can't believe how many of them I have yet to listen to....) LouieB

  8. They did play it at Tanglewood. I always think it is kinda dumb. LouieB
  9. Cage has always been trendy, but his work is not strictly minimalist at all. It involves all sorts of theoretical ideas including electronics. Cage created his own cult actually. From Wikipedia on the subject.... Minimalist composers Notable minimalist composers include: Louis Andriessen (born in the Netherlands) David Behrman (born in Austria) Barbara Benary (born in the United States of America) David Borden (born in the United States of America) (and his ensemble Mother Mallard's Portable Masterpiece Company) Gavin Bryars (born in the UK) Tony Conrad (born in the United States
  10. Good question..... While Reich has more hip cachet, don't forget Phillip Glass. For far less hip cachet but far more intense and even minimal music check out the work of Morton Feldman; I don't know his work that well, but he is truly the man for minimalism. Somehow I don't think of John Cage as a minimalist. He is experimental however. LouieB
  11. I like Biden too. Reminds me of myself - talks too long and apt to say something stupid. Nearly over the hill but not quite. I have friends who are going to be in Springfield today (hell I have friends who LIVE in Springfield) so it should be an exciting day down there. LouieB
  12. Yea, killing their long sought after credibility... It looks like Biden. Good pick!! LouieB

Maybe after all this discussion Jeff will call the record "I fear". LouieB
  17. In my humble opinion the opening chapter far outshines the rest of the novel, which I read in its entirety a few years back. LouieB
  18. The Annenberg Challenge was a bunch of money Ayers and others put together to imporove CPS's cirriculum etc. I was actually involved with this, if not deeply. It involved money to help kids to do neighborhood history projects at our local school, in partnership with other schools and the Newberry Library. I met Bill a few times and he is a nice level headed guy (this was a few years back so he could have gone back off the deep end, but I don't think so...) As usual the McCain campaign is going deep into the toilet to try and smear Obama any which way it can. Meanwhile McCain can't even re

You gotta be shittin me..... Relax everyone...its a fucking album, not the second coming. It is just a bunch of songs from what is supposed to be everyone's favorite group. No one knows what it will sound like when it is done. If you don't like it, don't buy it (or don't download it for free before you can buy it if history is any indication, this will be possible.) I have heard complaints on "Wilco's next album" ever since Wilco started making albums including AM. LouieB
  20. Wilco used to open for groups in Chicago all the time. Of course that was several years ago, but let's face it, opening for Neil Young is a good gig no matter where it is. LouieB
  21. I am sure a Big Star reunion would be great; but I saw him solo at Fitzgeralds 4th of July several years ago and he couldn't even keep folks in the club. I split too. LouieB
  22. Yea, I think I used that one sometime in the distant past..... LouieB
  23. the Art Ensemble of Chicago....now I guess I have to change it.... LouieB
