Good question..... While Reich has more hip cachet, don't forget Phillip Glass. For far less hip cachet but far more intense and even minimal music check out the work of Morton Feldman; I don't know his work that well, but he is truly the man for minimalism. The Annenberg Challenge was a bunch of money Ayers and others put together to imporove CPS's cirriculum etc. I was actually involved with this, if not deeply.
