  1. I saw Red one time. I don't suppose I appreciated him really. He was a very old man by then. He played Rick's Cafe Americanne which was in the old Holiday Inn on Lakeshore Drive near Grand. Fun place and long gone. LouieB
  2. Yea, me too.....I will go look for this. Bird Lives..... LouieB
  3. All of them....except Down in the Groove and Under the Red Sky.... LouieB
  4. That would be my question too. XRT has played the living shit out of it for so long.....(they haven't done MMJ any favors either....) LouieB
  5. Someone here predicted this.....(not me)..I figured David Cook would get dropped out awhile ago, bedhead and all.... LouieB
  6. Make sure you look for us. Figure it is the oldest guy in the audience with one of the youngest (we look similar too). It shouldn't be hard and the beer is a sure thing... LouieB
  7. I can't watch this crap anymore.....give it to Syesha and be done with it... LouieB
  8. Now if we could just rid ourselves of all the crooked politicians (oh that would be just about all of them), we would really have something going. I don't believe this thing is dead, but at least it has been beaten back. Covering liablility is probably needed; and having the city cover some of it and helping with this coverage for the good of music makers and music listeners is probably a good idea. In recent years the clubs have stopped stuffing as many people as possible into their venues, but that won't necessarily keep bad stuff from happening. The city government should protect fans
  9. Kids these days aren't dumber about some shit..... That's all I have to say.... LouieB
  10. I will be happy to sign the petition. Sadly contacting Bernie Stone will be a complete waste of time since he is a jerk. This is totally bad news. LouieB
  11. Best reason ever to keep watching... LouieB
  12. I already answered Wendy on a PM. Frankly i am not THE expert so a thread will help alot. Well I will take it as a joke if you like. I was very tired from driving in from southern IL, but frankly since I have been getting flamed off and on since the internet was still text only, I figured I had no reason NOT to flame back. But you have to figure that this is a fairly well established website that has a pretty long history of advising folks on what to do in Chicago besides see Wilco. I particularly enjoyed the interchange during the Residency concerning the SROs in Uptown and the need fo
  13. You never know......we all might show up. LouieB
  14. Thanks Mike..... Not only am I NOT a dick in real life, I actually know and like any number of people here in real life as well. Sorry I got a bit cranky (at least I said I WAS being cranky and admitted it) , but honestly this isn't Prescott, Arizona (although if I make it down there I know who to ask now...), it is a huge city, the third largest in the USA. It goes on for miles and miles in all directions with dozens of very interesting neighborhoods, some of which can be downright scary, and others that you may need some serious cash to have a good time in. We also have dozens of festival
  15. You are right..I don't have to read this stuff, but since I have helped literally dozens of people on here with shit to do in Chicago, I feel like I can ASK to have some old threads brought up so you can have the entire picture of what really is to do around here. I guess you really aren't that interested in what Chicago has to offer, since I offered to talk to you in private to give you a hand and somehow you didn't feel that was helpful. Every few weeks we have someone asking what there is to do in Chicago. Well guess what?? This is a big city with tons of stuff to do. What do you li
  16. I supppose as a long time Chicagoan I have to put in a good word forThe Reader despite it going downhill some since being sold. At least it is free and is not an interloper like Time Out, although Time Out is a reasonably cool publication... LouieB
  17. Happy Birthday...!!! Sorry this is late... LouieB
  18. I like it particularly in this instance. As much as I like Hot Dougs, there are thousands of great restaurants and other stuff going on in Chicago. We need to have some sort of record of what people have suggested in the past so we don't go over the same territory over and over again. Yea, I did too....it isn't dissing this poster, she or he wants suggestions and I think we can certainly give she/he some stuff going on this weekend, but why repeat endlessly the standard stuff like the museums and clubs which don't go any where in the inbetween. Bottle Rockets huh? I could go for that
  19. Well yea he should know. He should know because he is up in front of millions of people. If he screwed up jingle jangle he really screwed up.... LouieB
  20. That was very fun. The station really digs Rosie so perhaps we will do another sometime in the future. There were just enough technical difficulties that next time should be better.....but at least we played LPs so that was fun, even if we missed cuing them up correctly a few places...so it goes. Thanks to those who listened. LouieB
  21. Hey Analogman...can you help this person get the innummerable threads that have dealt with this?? Maybe someone can put up links to all the stuff we have talked about for years here. Sorry to be cranky, but we have given tons of ideas over the years and it is getting boring.....there are tons of music clubs, bars, plays, restaurants, neighborhoods to explore, els to ride, parks, places to stay, stores to go to, etc. etc etc. If this person wants to contact me on PM I will try and be more helpful. LouieB
  22. I doubt it. This is a really low budget community radio station without that kind of capability. Sometimes the stream itself doesn't work all that well.....sorry. PM Rosie and maybe she has an idea, although I doubt it too. LouieB
  23. The collaborations of Lester Young and Count Basie are some of the greatest stuff ever. Both are dead for a long time so no one would mind some free downloading. But seriously, even if you don't like jazz, much of the feeling of the head arrangements of the early Count Basie Orchestras have the energy of early rock and roll of 15 years later. It took Basie being transplanted to KC to really get him rockin though. LouieB
