  1. Not really THAT high...it does have ALOT of words and Jason is kind of young and probably hasn't sung along with it for decades. LouieB
  2. The first arena show (maybe the only arena show although it was maybe her first big rock show) I ever took TG to, was also her farewell tour at the United Center here (Oprah was in the audience). I wonder if she wants to go see the farewell after her farewell as well. I notice she is playing two nights here in the Chicago area; Rosemont being right next door. LouieB
  3. I was just listening to Count Basie the other day. Mosaic put out a nice set of Lester Young material. Oh yea, this thread is about Bruce, he's cool too and from NJ as well.... LouieB
  4. It sounds moderately live. The crowd at the show I as at was lively. Actually the comment at the end is from the show Rosie and I were at. Other than that I have no idea if we are on any of the actual cuts. LouieB
  5. Bumping this up in case I forget tomorrow or Saturday...remember 10 AM central time. Looks like about an hour or hour and a half of jazz (intergenerational, including early, swing, bop, hard bop, avant, etc.) for about an hour to hour and a half and then singersongwriterrockandroll with everyone's faves for the last hour and a half or so. Expect a surprise or two, but mostly stuff everyone knows.... LouieB
  6. Well Neko Case's Tigers album also. Sadly I missed the taping of the Waco Brothers recent release a couple years ago. This one is purely a fluke since it was never intended as an album. I think I will order it in both CD and LP.....even I am still freaked out..... LouieB
  7. Okay gang...you want tofreak out...??? ??? I was at that show. No bullshit. When I have talked in the past about seeing this show it was no biggie, just another gig for a late version of the Byrds, now it is an album. Go figure. Very very cool. I will certainly get this immediately. (Of course I bought a ticket late and I was like in the last row of the balcony, but I was in the house....) LouieB
  8. Totally agree with all of this. As I was saying Cook was supposed to be the rocker but he had no clue what to do with one of the great rock songs of all time. Pathetic. Meanwhile Syesha is stunningly beautiful and has a great set of pipes. She will go somewhere even if munchkin Archuleta beats her out. LouieB
  9. Jason has been bad since day one. He is getting by on his looks and not much else. David C is also toast. He couldn't even rock the rock songs last night. Kind of said. This year is sort of petering out. Syesha was my pick from day one. LouieB
  10. Really.....we would all love it, but it ain't gonna happen..(what am I saying..I ain't going.) LouieB
  11. Those people don't live in Chicago where he has been a staple on WXRT from the beginning and where he has played nearly every year or more often since then. No one can help but know him if they listen to XRT even occasionally. He used to be played all the time. (Wilco once or twice opened for him at the Riviera....) LouieB
  12. At long last....Jason is toast... LouieB
  13. I have no clue. There is an audio tape and a partial really bad film source that only represents about 1/3 of the actual performance, with the rest being a film of a tape machine playing. LouieB
  14. The Massey Hall DVD is wildly disappointing. The music is good however... LouieB
  15. This is quite true. Unfortunately fiscal success has never attached itself to Brian and he continues to labor in a bit of obscurity. LouieB
  16. Thanks for saving me the time...I guess I won't be checking it out any time soon. It no longer seems like something I need to get around too. I rarely watch them. The one I specifically bought new to watch was the Elvis Costello/Allen Toussant thing and I never watched it. Actually if you have a copy of the Anthology of American Folk Music, some of that stuff is really fun to watch. If a group includes like one vid, then I might watch it. I have watched the extra disk with SBS though several times. LouieB
  17. Happy Birthday!!!! Have a great one... LouieB
  18. Washington Square Serenade is a pleasant enough album with some really catchy tunes (unlike the subpar Revolution..) and a few that just seem disingenuous.... Either way the guy is still a force to be reconded with. I bought a used copy with DVD attached, which I haven't yet watched. Some night I need to haul out all the extra DVDs attached to albums and check them out. I have watched very few of them (or the double sided things like the Son Volt disk.) LouieB
  19. Part of it is marketing hype....if these albums are going to be on two disks they should do them at 45 and really ramp up the fidelity..... LouieB
  20. All good stuff, but the Brooklyn Side takes the cake.... (but I miss the good old days when all four original members were there including Tom Ray...) LouieB
  21. Its nice that Bloodshot is sticking with them.....May 17 huh?? LouieB
  22. Oxycontin blues is a good one. And although I have City of Immigrants stuck in my head, it is not nearly as good. It isn't a bad album by any stretch.....just not up to the hype. Meanwhile I gave Allison Moorer's The Duel, which I bought for $4 a listen. Pretty generic chick rock, heavy on the fuzz guitar and not too exciting on the songs. Meanwhile Jason still has a winner.... LouieB
