  1. Yea,....not something I am sure I would have played..but pretty out there...even now. Well that's a wrap...now I can go do some yard work or something equally as dull but more productive. LouieB
  2. I just went and took a shower....was Art Tatum on? I took a break during what I thought were the singersongwriters playing jazz..... LouieB
  3. Well Rosie might get a regular show next year. I am 350 miles away... She has done some other shows of late, playing all the VC faves....right now she is playing Tim Buckley.... (now if someone wanted to give me a show in Chicago......) LouieB
  4. That should be easy.....Maybe some Art Ensemble to wake up Carbondale... Incidently Rosie did play some AACM twice this morning.....Nicole Mitchell and Frequency (with Niki and Ed Wilkerson of 8 Bold Souls...) I know what you want....that Lester Bowie thing about Donald Duck...I just pulled it off the shelf.... I do like that she is playing the be-bop though.... LouieB
  5. What do you want to hear?? I am going to do the jazz part myself.....(the other side we will collaborate on..) Oh you KNOW I will.... LouieB
  6. Actually I am pretty impressed with her selections up to this point....at some point I convinced her to rip some "real" jazz CDs so she has a decent selection on her hard drive. (She started off with Frequency....a great group on Thrill Jockey....) Tune in next week too.....we will be playing LPs...if Rosie gets up to speed on how to work the turntables.... LouieB
  7. Actually this is quite a find.....(want to part with the doubles?? I will be happy to pay...) Most of these are popular titles in the Blue Note catalogue, ones that would naturally be interesting to people on a juke box. I know very little about the 3 Sounds, but apparently they were hot stuff with BN back in the day (so says the Cook book) but frankly they have dropped off most people's radar and I don't believe their records have been reissued. Meanwhile folks like Adderly, Smith, Byrd, Turrentine and even Donaldson were very popular with the general listening public and cearly some of
  8. Rosie was having a bit of a hard time of late and missed about a month of her show, but she is back on playing Bloodshot tonight at WDBX in Carbondale. Check her out if you have time. Thanks. LouieB
  9. You have that (w)right..... One also has to believe that he is a touch worried about the Rezo trial as well, which isn't involving him directly, but is involving just about every other Illinois politician. Clearly (or maybe not so clearly) Barak is not part of the endemic political corruption that is IL, but he has been through the same system which may also be an issue in the general election. LouieB
  10. Wow..nice. I assume you are talking about 10 inch LPs? or maybe 7 inchers. They have to be from the 50s or 60s. Rudy VanGelder did most of the engineering on Blue Note. Blue Note REcords The Biography is an interesting book about the label, but I don't remember anything in it about small LPs. I know 10 inch LPs were very popular (I have a few of them, but not any Blue Notes) during the 50s. There is now a much heralded 45 RPM release of some of the Blue Notes aimed at audiophiles, since they are very pricey. LouieB
  11. Yea okay..I can see that also. Pearl Jam vs the munchkins.... Jason has to go, that's all..after that I honestly don't care. LouieB
  12. I bought an Allison CD for $4 yesterday but haven't listened to it yet. I did finally listen to Washington Square and frankly I am less than impressed with it. A couple of the songs are really good, but the rest just sort of blah, including one that is basically an ad for his satellite radio show. I think Justin out did him this year.... LouieB
  13. Far out.... Regarding Fela....good use of his music in the movie "The Visitor" Really a good small movie particuarly if you are looking for a date movie. LouieB
  14. Does Milton Nascimento count? I like him too....I guess I don't think of him as being in the same genre, but you are probably correct. As long as we are talking about somewhat latin stuff, I really like Eddie Palmieri. Also Mongo Santamaria. LouieB
  15. Giberto Gil.... LouieB
  16. Sadly I never saw him in person. I should have made more of an effort when he played the Quiet Knight here in Chicago all the time in the 70s. LouieB
  17. This is going to come down to Syesha and David A in the end. Sadly we have to put up with Jason one more week. So long Brooke...she was getting by on minimal skills on piano and her stunning good looks for several weeks now. LouieB
  18. This is dreadful news....sorry to hear about this. I missed this earlier. LouieB
  19. Thanks again all. It was a pretty uneventful day in Springfield, but I did get a free Guinness at the place I had dinner, even though I rarely drink and never drink alone, I figured, hell it is free. Sadly I think I am missing DBT this weekend (my hearing will thank me I suppose...) LouieB
  20. Whoa...Happy Birthday, May Day boy... LouieB
  21. Yea, I should. Let's see what I can do. Waronwar....Martyr's is intolerant of under 21 year olds at 21+ shows sadly....it is just a few days before TGs 21st so I doubt if I can even get her in. LouieB
  22. Yea...he is really quite impressive (see my thread if it hasn't already disappered...) He already has two CDs out on Bloodshot, and he is going to perform on the Grand Old Opry Friday (someone emailed me I think.) LouieB
