I bought both groups new albums. Also stopped by Ribfest and saw Danny Black's new group as well, in the rain. Too much going on this weekend in Chicago. LouieB

Well I don't know if Schubas is the best club on the planet, but for the moment it is. Another sterling night at the room every musician loves to play in Chicago. I guess these guys are on tour together, both promoting their new albums (which I bought at the merch table.) Both put on a great show, during their back to back stop here at Schubas. Centro headlined last night (that show will be part of the ongoing mini-docs we shoot for GloNo) and tonight The M's will headline with Centro being the opener. I have seen both before and both were excellent, with the slight nod going to Centro (th

Again this shows the power of a really great song that can't be dimished by a luke warm performer. LouieB

I gotta tell ya...I took the el downtown yesterday for the first time in a month or so and it is WORSE THAN EVER. We have to get our public transportation issues figured out. At this point it could take 8 years.... LouieB

Someone just mentioned seeing Ramblin Jack. Nels appears on one of his recent albums by the way.... LouieB

All of these systems are ultimately somewhat undemocratic....I mean despite being an Obama supporter and not a Hillary hater, neither candidate can claim the popular vote since Michigan and Florida didn't have real elections and besides this whole super deligate thing is just so much bullshit. Oh well..so it goes. Not my A-game comment, but then again it is the end of an exhausting work day (having stayed up too late seeing Nels) and I live in the uber democratic state of IL.....we all know how well run this joint is.... That is probably the song. It was on a bootleg previously and it is one of two "masterpeices" of sorts that have never been officially released (at least until this one was); the other being Sign on the Cross. Both are fairly much improvised songs which undoubtedly never were performed again. LouieB

A perfect night. Nels and his band were on fire and Jeff and his band performed a thoughtful and energetic set of improv. A good time was had by all I think. LouieB

Actually he "invented" country-rock. The genre of alt.country was still nearly 2 decades off when he died. LouieB

Obviously...since the words make NO sense.... But it is a fun set of covers.... LouieB

Best and/ or Worst Rock and Roll Movies Ever (other than IATTBYH)??
LouieB replied to dagwave's topic in Someone Else's Song
It wasn't the worst movie ever made, but it was just sort of "meh". With all the supposed footage they had, they made a fairly repetive and not very illuminating movie all the way around. Not a great movie by any stretch of the imagination. Tommy is a great movie......along with the Kids Are Alright, the Who comes through each time, Quadrophenia included. New York Doll is simply one of the best documentaries ever made, period. Short and to the point, no bullshit. I am far less a fan of the Roky Erickson and Daniel Johnston docs which are primarily about mental health (or lack thereo -

As long as we are talking about influential Chicago artists...here is one also... LouieB Paul Sills, father of Second City improv, dies at 80By Chris Jones Tribune critic June 03, 2008 Without Paul Sills, the founding Chicago father of improvisational theater, there would be no Second City. No "SCTV." No "Saturday Night Live." No "30 Rock." Sills, a man who eschewed public attention but exerted a giant influence on the development of American comedy and live entertainment, was among the most influential theater people ever to emerge from Chicago. "Paul was the Orson Welles of improv,"
