  1. Not to quibble, but Fat's best work was during the 50s on Imperial Records which would be included in this set.. There was an excellent two LP set that is still available as well if you look for it. The sides from that period have been repackaged many many times over the years. LouieB
  2. For sure!! This administration can not be over soon enough.... LouieB
  3. I am certainly no expert on printing, but you need a "plotter" that will print something in a large size. A good local printer will have one and can probably blow up a photograph without it becoming pixelated if they know what they are doing. You have to blow up the print in the correct type of file (of course that info has escaped my poor tired brain.) Clearly this is done all the time for outdoor advertising so it is a common process, although it might be rather costly. LouieB
  4. When you have The Band backing you even the slightest of material can sound good (even if you misspell the piano players name.) It was relatively well received at the time. I remember buying it and a friend and I listened to it on his turntable. Remember Dylan had not toured in some time at that point and the methodology used in wrting this was much like the Basement Tapes (obviously.) It was also on Asylum, not Columbia, Dylan switched labels. Clearly Forever Young is the stand-out of the bunch. Some of the rest of the songs are rather weak, but On a Night like this, Something there is
  5. Okay....thanks....I would like a copy. LouieB
  6. Probably nothing..you just don't have the motivation and personal connection to them... LouieB
  7. Hey....get whatever the market will bear...that wasn't my point. My foray into eBay was last week and I got scared out. LouieB
  8. Well I fucked up....I walked into Laurie's this afternoon with every intention to buy Alejandro, but the clerks there laid a big old pile of used stuff on my to look through and damn if I didn't find $40 worth of other stuff to buy.... Sadly I will be in Seattle when Alejandro plays Taste of Randolph on the 4th. LouieB
  9. Yea, but only in context is my point. (see below..I agree with Lammy's comments....) Just saying I saw X (actually I did, but only when they reformed back a few years ago... ) is sort of not that interesting. If we talk about Sun Ra and what his music means and how he presented it as part of a discussion on this or that, yea, I have never hestitated to jump in on that kind of discussion. But frankly who is impressed with just dropping names..... Okay I saw the Dead Kenneys... not the real Kennedys. I regret all the bands I didn't see, that could be another thread and I have talked a
  10. Beat me to it. Black 49 Just about any jazz group you can think of..... LouieB
  11. Okay, I will get it today on all these recommendations.....what the heck. LouieB
  12. Sadly I did not. I had not even heard of them until that gig, which prompted me to get their CDs, which incidently aren't that easy to find. I got the most recent one through CD baby, but the first two I got through some jazz CD site, they are not sold anywhere else as far as I can tell (I looked for hours on other sites..) Are you in Chicago? If so I can burn you their disks to check out if you like. And they are in fact jazz.....their methodology and sound is completely jazz. (The Bad Plus is jazz also, so I think both groups are certainly jazz..) LouieB
  13. I saw Edgar do a long set in Evanston a few years back when he opened for Dr. John. And your point is.... The fact that those bands like Gary Pucket and the Grassroots all use the same rhythm section on the nostalgia tour is quite understandable. Those sorts of groups make the county fair circuit and make a very good lving doing so, but why have extra musicians if you don't have to? Just extra expence. This thread is as boring as I thought it would be....what constitutes a legend anyway?? I mean I have seen County Basie (missed seeing Duke Ellington because I was stuck at the Toledo
  14. Close enough for eBay.... I can't figure out why a guitar signed (but not owned) by UT would be worth so much. LouieB
  15. I saw Springsteen in 76 on the Born to Run tour. A-fucking-mazing. LouieB
  16. I'll tell you how I DIDN'T get into them. XRT playing Golden every hour for years and then getting a copy of It Still Moves and it irritated me so much I sent my copy to someone on VC who really wanted it. LouieB
  17. I saw Zappa three times and the late Who once (my biggest regret is not seeing them in the day...) back when they toured with Ringo's son and did Quadrophienia. Despite everyone having heard these stories a million times....Dylan and The Band in 1974 at the Chicago Stadium and George Harrison, same place (Rolling Stones the same place also.) LouieB
  18. Rilly..... I know I am late to this most recent party.....Obama can't be a saint, he came up in Chicago, IL politics (both state and city) so there is plenty of bad shit that can stick to him at some point. Yet on the other hand I am having a disagreement with a very old and good friend who is voting McCain because McCain is better for Israel. Go figure. This friend came of political age in Madision, Wisconsin circa 1967-71 and considers (or ed) himself a radical. Go double figure.... LouieB
  19. My Dylan obsession is so deep I ordered all three albums by Jewels and Binoculars and they were even new. The two early ones came today so I haven't listened to them yet, but the newest one is pretty good I think. LouieB
  20. Okay I will take a chance on these. I just bought the second for $5 and the first for one cent (that's correct one cent) on Amazon. Not alot of market for Duke these days I guess... LouieB
  21. Good to know someone went in previous years. Hyde Park is a bit off the beaten track for us Northsiders and so soon after Jazz Fest in Grant Park, this event is slightly redundant, but the lineup seems better than in years past. Fortunately you can some some of these folks in clubs on a regular basis (many at the Velvet or the Hideout or the Green Mill and such). I will try and get down for this, but my neices wedding is that weekend so it ain't looking so good. Please report back though. Recently I have gotten ahold of some or Reginald Robinson's CDs. Strangely he doesn't play around to
  22. Randy has sold plenty of albums so I wouldn't feel too badly for him. I have nearly all his albums on vinylm nearly all bought used. All the early stuff is great. LouieB
  23. I plan to get it some day. Man Under the Influence will certainly be hard to top as his best work, but my mind remains open. Alejandro still has plenty fo life left in him. Nice guy (I have talked to him a time or two), just sorry he had a falling out with Bloodshot. Not sure what that was about, but all his Bloodshot albums are very high quality. LouieB
