  1. Don't know them, but I know Freakwater, Sweetwater, fIREHOSE, and the Firesign Theater. LouieB
  2. The Swell Season did a two song set on the sidewalk outside the Old Town School when they played there, because so many fans couldn't get tickets and were just hanging out on the sidewalk. That was fun. LouieB
  3. That was funny as heck...no hate there..... LouieB
  4. I would tend to disagree. Some of the later stuff (much later) doesn't have as strong songs on it. This would absolutely be my suggestion for those unfamilar with her work. 1967 - More Than a New Discovery (later reissued as Laura Nyro, 1969, and as The First Songs, 1973) 1968 - Eli and the Thirteenth Confession 1969 - New York Tendaberry 1970 - Christmas and the Beads of Sweat 1971 - Gonna Take a Miracle (with Labelle) All of these early records are wonderful and very very well arranged and engineered, in fact the mixing etc on them is nothing short of amazing in most cases. Great
  5. I plan to stop in and see some afternoon, since I hate the ticketbastard thing. It is amazing this show is already listed and selling tickets. I can always give it a shot. Bad timing...... LouieB
  6. I was expecting a snarky entry about Wilco on the link, but clearly Greg is correct. Not alot of black people dig Wilco.....oh well... LouieB
  7. Hey you may not want to actually.... Hopefully I can make this show. The other two times I saw Nels (once solo and once with Scott Amendola or however you spell it.), he was great. LouieB
  8. In the Entertainment section today.....what's with no paper....you one of those snooty NY Times readers.... (actually I am, but I get both and only the NY Times on Sundays...) LouieB
  9. Maybe they finally figured that a reasonably full Metro was better than a half full Vic.... LouieB God the 70s were a great time.....I remember them well..... LouieB
  10. It is a full page and worth keeping I think. LouieB
  11. Or divorce papers pending... Sadly two songs on SNL is going to pay off big time for the band, a gig in Charleston is just another mid-sized city gig. LouieB
  12. Someday I will give this a try, but frankly I am too busy with work and stuff (or two lazy..) It's enough I have to wrestle with i-Tunes just to get my i-Pod to work. I went to WXRT just to try and download the podcast of the Tweedy Langford show and can't for the life of me figure out how to get it into i-Tunes. It plays on the XRT site, but each time I pushed what appeared to be the download button it either played or wanted to go somewhere else. (Heck just downloading a new version of i-Tunes made was problematic, I had to restart the computer and reload it again.) Some day this stuff
  13. Glad to see I am not the only one lost in this new world... Where are you from? LouieB
  14. Wow, where was I??? I missed both those threads. I have every issue AND a subcription that will last another two years. This sucks..... LouieB
  15. Nice to meet you too...are tickets actually available for this show already?? Oh yea, so they are...Ticketbastard charges and all.....and just days before TG can get in on her own ID (Martyrs is notorious for not letting under age folks in even with a parent, unlike other clubs.) LouieB
  16. While this is much more fun in print (if you can get a paper copy of the paper), they did a good job of outlining which songs were which nights. Actually the web graphics are kind of fun too, but without more of the summary information the paper had, such as critiquing each nights energy and Jeff's most clever line. Anyway I figured this was worth a post... LouieB
  17. None of this stuff was called alt.country until the 90s. Up until that time it was just good old country rock.... LouieB
  18. These guys are moving up fast. They started at the Old Town School, moved to the Vic and now the Chicago theater. All this in one year. What's next the United Center?? LouieB
  19. Oops..sorry about that... Actually I was talking to Venusstopstrain2....hard to tell... LouieB
  20. Yea, maybe I will meet you this time too.... LouieB
  21. Very cool. How were the other places people stayed?? LouieB
  22. Okay cool..I guess you and Alison will have to fight over this. LouieB
  23. Wow..this is planning ahead...I guess Wilco will no longer be on tour by then.... LouieB
  24. No flame necessary. There have been residencies by many "smaller" bands here in Chicago over the course of the past seveal years so you are correct, they didn't invent this, but few have done it as well or so comprehensively. LouieB
