  1. Hmm...that sounds like I line I would have come up with. If I actually could go to one of these shows I might have tired for a ticket since it has been alot of years since I have seen him, but for the price you can see a heck of alot of very good current bands up close in a club. So while even I may be cynical about the current music scene, most of the time I woudl still rather see some band trying to make a go of it at a club (or even one of the more successful new bands) than spend the dough on one of the dinosaurs. (Although I sure would have liked to see Jorma Kaukaunon at Fitzgerald'
  2. Well I know I can't keep up and I am not even trying, although some of the new concert stuff is tempting. LouieB
  3. Nearly everyone had one at Pitchfork. I used to wear one as a headband, but that was a very long time ago.....before the 80s. LouieB
  4. I really think Neil Young needs to get more albums out...there just aren't enough. He might want to consider raising ticket prices too. LouieB
  5. Patti Smith does an interesting cover of Wicket Messanger. LouieB
  6. I am fairly moderate with this stuff. Two tee-shirts, a few posters, a bumbersticker on my car, a couple ring tones, and some passwords to some websites... LouieB
  7. It won't matter who opens for them at the Eagles Ballroom, they will still sound like crap.....if the last show there is any indication... LouieB
  8. Wanting to sing a song that is by an artist you admire is different than making a go of it for sure. Actually I am starting to miss the days when Wilco did at least one cover in concert. I would sure like it if they went back to that. LouieB
  9. This looks fun...too bad I am so lazy... LouieB
  10. Yea, Mojo. There were a couple Uncut Dylan cover CDs awhile back. I got one, but not the other. Joan Baez was THE folk singer of her day. Glad to know someone the age of my sister (who owned all those albums back in the day and I have collected them at various resale and junk shops over the years..) is the same age as your grandmother... I highly recommend the the book "Positively Fourth Street" for a view of the folk scene during that period, even if you don't like Baez. My VC buddy renic read it and enjoyed it and she doesn't know hardly anything about any of those people except Bob Dyl
  11. Yea, now I remember..well as always I just can't get everywhere..time for him to do another gig, it has been long enough. LouieB
  12. Cool that you worked for her. I have always respected her, but treating her die hard core audience like children was stupid. I mean her fans are all in their 50s and 60s fer cryin out loud. That demographic is used to singing along. And I understand that she has had a hard time, coming out, being an older artist discarded by the major labels etc., but plenty of old folkies do just find on the circuit. That is very funny that you worked for her though. LouieB

Yea, me too. He has started to get on my nerves since though.... LouieB
  14. Yea, I know, but maybe he can be talked into a Hideout gig over the winter break. LouieB
  15. These guys are okay from what I saw and only have heard their music on the radio once (I found their recorded material better than the stuff at the show), but frankly Jeff and the boys blew these guys out of the water. I am glad they like them and all, but they are no threat. (and I guess all the good band names are taken too...) LouieB
  16. When is he going to play a Chicago gig? (I know he is busy now.) I have seen just about every other Wicoite in some group or another. LouieB
  17. Like I said, I can understand how you feel and I don't throw on a Judy Collins album and groove to it any more (using some outdated slang to accompany an outdated vocalist.) I like Gordan Lightfoot well enough (I have other issues with him, he got so darned MOR in his later career), butsome of Sylvia's vocal stylings can be down right irritating too. Janis Ian is another case altogether. I have an extremely soft spot in my heart for her as a 14 year old singersongwriter having a kick ass hit single that rattled some cages (Society's Child) when I was a mere teen, but my wife and I went t
  18. Ya see...same thing with mjpuczko not liking Joan Baez; it's a generation gap thing!! I grew up with both these singers and heard them sing some of these songs before I heard Dylan's versions. So yea, I am NOT kidding. I am sure you don't need the old lecture about how it used to be that there were singers and there were songwriters, before there were singer-songwriters (it is the same reason older people, even older than me still really dig Peter Paul and Mary), and before singers with non-smooth trained voices could have kick ass careers. As you point out, without JC, there would be n
  19. Another set of Dylan covers I like is Red On Blonde by Tim O'Brien. His version of Senior (which is a great song) is excellent. LouieB
  20. This must have been alot of fun. He apparently was good in Chicago as well. Despite a late career slump by Stevie, what he did in his earlier to mid-career was enough to make him one of the greats. (which is why so many American Idol constestants sing his songs I guess.) LouieB
  21. Yea, I understand that....really I do. Joannie is totally old school, but back in the day she was worshipped by the folksters. She has managed to continue to have a good career (unlike Judy Collins and most of the other old school female singers). Frankly without Joan, Bob Dylan may not have made it. Her early covers were some of the first and best of the lot. Judy Collin's version of Tom Thumbs Blues is excellent. LouieB
  22. Joan Baez is always unfairly dumped on here. Her version of Daddy You Been on My Mind is great and the album Any Day Now was has some excellent covers (and not so excellent ones I admit) , since it is an entire album of Dylan covers. LouieB
  23. There is also a reasonalby good New Orleans cover album too. Also there is a country compilation as well. LouieB
  24. Everyone needs a band...every other Wilco member has one or more.... LouieB
