In point of fact encores are usually rather short in their original incarnation. If you go to a symphony concert it is rather unusual to get an encore, but if a performance is unusually good and the audience isn't leaving the hall, sometimes they will do another 5 minutes of something they already did. (Or at an opera the diva will resing a favorit aria.) In the old days musicians played a set and left the stage and came back later for another set or two or three. People were there to dance or were there in a night club and knew they had to either leave or hang around for more music after th

Yup...that's about it. Why else would Gram Parsons hung around doing nothing all that time?? LouieB

Pop for all four and be done with it. All have something to recommend them. Anodyne is certainly the most Wilco friendly, but the rest are all good and have great originals and covers. LouieB

Some bands should simply not come back. Convention now dictates an encore even when one is not asked for or needed. Mostly encores are not real encores they are simply a way for a big finish. I was impressed with Camper Van Beethoven a few years back when they played two long sets, with a short break between, and then announced near the end that when they were done they were done. LouieB

This one looks particularly good, at least the buzz has been high. Wait until someone dumps it used for half that. That's my MO. LouieB

I heard Ted Leo was good, but I wasn't there. Actually simply people watching at this event was worth the price of admission.... LouieB

Well alright then....I asked because I really did want to know and apparently I have no idea what the mainstream wants. When I heard about these guys a few years back I figured they would have disappeared by now. Good for them for hanging in there. LouieB

I have always loved The Who, but why on earth should I buy their new album? Does anyone think that the Scissor Sisters have any mainstream appeal? Please let me know. Tom Waits set on the other hand is a no brainer. As soon as someone decides they don't want the new YLT anymore, I will be sure to buy it used. LouieB

While I didn't actually see Larry, I heard him and he was a mess, but their performance was one of the highlights of what I heard. What I did see, The Ex, Jon and Kat and Seam were all good. LouieB

The song is great and it should not have been included. LouieB

Anyone want to talk about the Touch and Go Hideout event? I don't really have time today and frankly I saw few bands, but still had a great time. LouieB

Every six months or so we do a fire drill at the Thompson Center, which is announced and planned so some people sneak out so they don't have to walk the stairs. I really think an unplanned drill at all buildings at some point is in order, not necessarily organized by the city, but as a responsibility of each individual landlord or organization. I am not paranoid, because I figure Chicago isn't really much of a target, but if someone drove a truck bomb (as in OK City) up to the Thompson Center, few people would survive anyway since the front is a wall of glass and the building is basically

Great..... Now I will carry that around all day.....Night moves..... LouieB

Hey why not?? Its not like he has a fabulous late career resurgence going. I am sure he makes a bundle from his material being played on the classic rock stations, why not sit by the ocean (rather than Lake Huron.) LouieB

I sure hope emptying a couple buildings teaches them something, but frankly in the event of a real attack, it will be much more chaotic. I work in the Loop and we didn't even know it was happening (yea I KNEW it was occuring, but we didn't evacuate.) I am sure this is a sample which they will then multiply hundreds of times, but since this was a small drill, people seemed rather calm and the streets were not overflowing with people as they would be if all buildings heard the news.
