Hey Kiss is fine. They are what rock and roll is about. Really I could care less who gets in. After all some folks are in multiple times for being in groups and being individuals. Can they let Paul McCartney in one more time? LouieB

Having kind of a slow day at work, so I have been looking back at the past inductees. Many are not musicians and many were not even rock and roll (whatever that means) musicians. So hey why not the Replacements, Robyn Hitchcock, Cheap Trick or Hall and Oates? At some point they will be scraping to find anyone who even remotely has any connection. How many more years until Wilco can be inducted. LouieB

It would be a kick to see the Replacements get in. After a certain point, all the originators and innovators are going to be voted in, leaving nooks and crannies of rock and roll left to acknowledge. Even Cheap Trick, while a fun band, was never earth shaking in their originality or importance. They could have just as easily disappeared after a few years. LouieB

Meanwhile Linda Ronstadt was also an important artist in her time, but despite her current health problems, few people are going to consider her MOR career that important these days (I sure dug her way back when though.) The R&R Hall is somewhat pathetic I think. Sorry, there is nothing about Kiss that seems to deserve recognition, but that's just me. Never was a fan. LouieB

It wasn't how innovative they could be, it was how important they were at the time. They were the best of the white blues bands of the 60s. Their cachet has fallen, but at the time there was no one better (that includes Canned Heat.) LouieB

Chic was a disco band. When did Hall and Oates become hip again and important? I guess my point was that the Butterfield Blues Band was important in its time. Some of these other artists, not so much. LouieB

Why are folks dissing Paul Butterfield? LouieB

Glenn is in the band, but also a musician in his own right. He had a career before he was in Wilco and has a career as an individual now. I don't think Wilco had anything to do with him doing this commercial. I assume he has his own agent that negotiates such things for him or he does it himself. You must not have been around in the days when the car commercial was showing. Maybe someone can unearth the thread on that, since it was controversial, but few artists don't do ads anymore if they are approached about one. About the only famous one I can think of off the top of my head is Neil
-
This is just Glenn, but the "band" already did commercials several years ago for Volkswagen. Those were controversial at the time, this one is very cute. No musician in their right mind would turn down this type of job. LouieB

Somehow I didn't peg you as someone signing up for ACA. Interesting. LouieB

Funny. Sorry, but considering Jules is usually the flippant one here, this is pretty humorous. LouieB

Yea, that whole they have three years to make this work is just plain stupid. They have probably not been working on it for three years and way more people went on the site than they had planned. I work for the government and we are working on an in house program for 6 years and it is still not ready and bug free. This is one time I whole heartedly believe the private sector "might" be able to do better, but even with that caveat we have all been on websites created by the private sector that have crashed or not worked as planned. Of all the issues with the ACA, the website issue is real

Used copies of the Brooklyn Side should be pretty easy to find. (I have bought one or two over the years to give to people.) Admittedly the first album is much harder to come by. LouieB
-
As it turned out you are correct. LouieB

The Brooklyn Side is a great album, probably their greatest, Glad to see they are reissuing it. Never heard the demos. Rosie played the version of Indianapolis with Uncle Tupelo on her show last night. What a kick. Will have to hit up the Bloodshot folks for this. I have all their albums, at least the official ones, but will be happy to get some of this early material. (Maybe this will be enough incentive for the Bottle Rockets to actually get out the movie done a few years ago and still unissued.) LouieB

Why am I NOT surprised. LouieB

Whichever one is good. LouieB

Shut it down. (Disclaimer...I am paid by federal money...) Unfortunately this won't be either much of a shut down or a very long one. Every constituency has their favorite federal program, so even those making a big deal about doing this won't want "their" programs shut. A real shut down would certainly have impact on everyone, but we have been through this before and we all survive. LouieB

I doubt it, but maybe you need to ask Jeff since he seems to be pretty open about his influences. LouieB

Not really. Is there anyone here that doesn't think some parents are stupid and negligent by leaving firearms unattended? If so they are free to speak up. I have long ago given up on the fact that we have too many guns, so we are going to just keep letting kids get killed for a good long time. LouieB
-
So maybe we don't need any laws to control guns, but we sure need some more parents with some controls. Interesting NY Times article. LouieB

It's a children's book. Ted Cruz is an adult. Adults don't have to have open minds. LouieB

The Bitter Southerner: Southern Soul Review
LouieB replied to choo-choo-charlie's topic in Someone Else's Song
Regarding soul comps, the English have really done up some nice soul comps I just found. They are super cheap and sound great. They are on One Day Music and feature cuts from early indie labels. The Specialty one is called Rip it Up and I featured it on the R&B flashback show this past Sunday. But I also found and have not listened to I'm Ready which has material from Modern Records, and Let the Good Times Roll with material from Aladdin Records. I also got the United Story from Delmark recently too. But I highly recommend the Fame studios comps (also from an English company). There is -

I am not sure what the deal is. I think the tapes themselves might have been bad. I sort of remember asking about that, but honestly I don't remember the answer. LouieB -
