So I was listening to the CD of night 5 in the car today (being insanely jealous of you all once again). Muzzle of Bees with Andrew Byrd came on, and I listened to it a couple times. The quiet part in the middle with the violin and the acoustic and a little Glenn in the background (before Nels kicks in) is perhaps one of the most gorgeous little pieces of music I've heard. It's just incredible. Just thought I needed to share that little moment.

Kinda obvious, I suppose. I know that A Shot in the Arm gets a lot of flack here since it's played live so much, but it's just a song that really brings up some really clear images for me. The first time I heard it, I could "see" it, and the ashtray is that first image in it. VC does the same thing for me. I know exactly what the cracked and hooked cups look like over the sink. And they do make me think...

It's Penfold. He was (is?) a caracter in a cartoon called Dangermouse, which was a delightfully goofy James Bond kind of cartoon several years ago. Penfold is the fraidy-cat but loyal sidekick who says "Crumbs!" in an English accent the way we would say "oh crap!". Kinda campy, but always one of my favorite cartoons to watch with the kids. Haven't seen it in forever, tho. I think it used to be on PBS.

What is it with the raggin on Walken thing? It's just a happy little love song. It's got a little bounce, a little twang, a little sap. Add a little horn section, and it's a pretty funky little number. Why is that a bad thing? Makes me smile every time I hear it, and live with horns is just that much better. Not everything in the catalog has to be the same. Isn't that why we like these guys so much? Yeah, that one was pretty funny. Kinda along the lines of Gilda Radner's Roseanne Rosanadana (sp?) for us old timers, but pretty funny. And Walken was the better of the two songs played. I think it shows more of the band's creativity than Hate it Here. Nels is the only guy I've ever seen who can get an aerobic workout sitting in a chair playing lap guitar...

I'm confused. Doesn't all of that story have to be a load of crap for the whole character witness / testimony thing? To make Kate look like a hero instead of a criminal? 'Cause there were way more than 8 survivors, eh? Is it a cover story for whatever (whomever) they left behind, or do we think they really that their memory of the whole event is now replaced with this 8 people / 6 people with Kate being the hero thing?
