Any Umphrey's McGee fans here? (Updated)
dannygutters replied to Szabo's topic in Someone Else's Song
I saw them a couple times in chicago, and one time I loved it and the other didn't do it for me. They are talanted guys tho. I did see some of them at an acoustic show benifit thing at schubas that was very good a few years ago. -
Is that the Japanese Release?

I haven't listened to this but I generally dislike this show. Jim Deregottis manages to drain all the interest out of my favorite music. He's super pedantic and even albums he likes come off as dull after he's done talking about them. Tho I probably just dislike him cause he panned the Oysterhead show I loved a couple years back, I still don't want to hear someone talk down to me on the radio. One I heard a couple weeks ago his point was that while he likes norah jones as a person and likes listening to the new album he doesn't like the new album because it's not cool to like norah jones b

I have head the new songs described as Siamese Dream meets Machina, which I find to be an oxymoron, but who knows...

I heard the new pumpkins are going to allow taping, so hopefully I can listen to some of these off of bt. Also, Just connecting the dots, but maybe they will play the hideout block party this year since it is in conjunction with the metro's anniversary theme?

I'm going to visit my sister in Memphis, anyone know of any good guitar shops in that city? I'm looking for acoustics. I read this other thread about nashville shops which was helpful. http://forums.viachicago.org/index.php?sho...hl=guitar+store Record shops too if you know any.

Actually, he does the best acting in the movie. I thought the dancing scene was the worst. It was like they I was watching the mask. The movie was ok, nothing really happened tho the effects were good, least favorite of the series tho.

In the previous episode, Future Hiro went back to talk to Peter (on the train) which resulted in claire being alive in the 5+ years future. BUT since present Hiro was in 5+ future in this episode HE WASN'T THERE to stab sylar. That's why in 5+ future they were confused that Issac's last comic didn't come true. Tho at the end he jumped back into the present so he could possible stab sylar aftet that point. *I'm not reading any posts from today since I haven't seen the new episode yet! just thought I'd clear up that confusion from last week.

There was a good this american life episode all about these two some years ago. I forget the episode number but you can probably search curly Oxide on www.thislife.org. Last I heard he went back to the hasidic life. Cohen is a good character actor tho, so I figure he can pull of mercury pretty well without making you think of borat.
-
Cohen previously dressed up as borat dressing up as Freddie in yellow spandex at the MTV Awards Europe last year or sometime, I saw it on youtube a while ago..

shit just got real. Not to spoil, but I really liked the anti-twist-ness...

Dylan didn't hate the machine (I've heard him sing praises of the brill building output several times), he got you to love him by making you think he did. That's how he works, he makes you see what you want to see in your head, like a ninja! Well this is a topic for another thread.

Rolling Stones 25 Most Underappreciated Artists
dannygutters replied to So Long's topic in Just A Fan
This list seems to be Artist that are more hip than popular. Or maybe a list of artists RS thinks are hokey but are actually good? (cheap trick, cars, alice cooper). I dunno, when I think Underappreciated I think of artists making amazing work that people would like but don't notice for whatever reason, maybe their from a different genneration or in a different genre or don't have any 'hits'. That's different than un-popular. How about someone like John Fahey or Paul Burch. Heck, I could rattle off a page of country blues artists most people don't know the name of who could knock your s -
They've had scaffolding on that place like they were going to do something for at least 3 years. Tho I haven't been up there lately.

Anyone in chicago going to the Dianogah / Shellac show tonight at Subterrenan? It's a benifit for J Robbins' son Callum, who has some sort of degenerative nerve disorder. I'm not sure if it's sold out but it should be pretty sweet. Last time I saw Dianogah at the hideout andrew bird dropped in for a few songs.

I dunno, they seem to be setting up the Riv as the Indie Metro or some such thing. It seems after an indie band is too big for the metro but too small for the Auditorium or the Aragon they shove them in the riv. I have skipped Andrew Bird, Sufjan Stevens and the Decemberists multiple times because of them being at the riv. Which is sad cause I like those guys.
-
Jeff is welcome to play at my house in logan square anytime..
-
I hope the don't go back to the riv, I hate that place, it's hard to see and oversold all the time. I'll take the aud over the riv anyday. Tho a Vic or park west show would be sweet business.
