I think those Michael Bay releases were Criterion's way of testing the waters, see if their fanbase would accept these sort of blockbusters, I think they got their answer pretty quickly. I'm sure they regret the inclusion of those films nowadays; definite low points in their catalogue.

In most cases their releases are the definitive editions for a film. A few of their early releases weren't always the best, some had issues with interlacing ("The Harder They Come" springs to mind) and quite a few were non-anamorphic widescreen releases. Yeah, same here. Considering Big Stars recent history, one really has to be careful how they title threads. But yeah, Jody's drumming has always complimented the music quite nicely, and some of the fills on their records are just perfect.

Isn't that pretty much the same thing people going to the cinema do? 2 tickets for the movies is generally more than a new DVD. I've bought quite a few DVDs of films I've never seen before. Usually they're films that can't be found at rental stores that I've wanted to see. Often they're from directors I have had good experiences with in the past. And if that DVD happens to be issued by someone like Criterion it's a win-win.

Sounds very promising. I'm going to have to check this one out. Agreed. Hank is such a giant, his influence goes way beyond country music artists. I don't think there's many important songwriters of the past 50 years that don't have an affinity for ol' Hank.

I mentioned Joe Ely earlier but forget to mention this great record: Speaking of the Flatlanders, Jimmie Dale Gilmore has some records worth getting (After Awhile being one of them.) I've never delved into Butch Hancock's solo stuff, not sure what that's like. pmancini100 mentioned him in his initial post which is why I steered clear of him. But yeah, he's the man, every country fan needs to check him out.

I'm a pretty big fan, particularly of Honky Tonk, Outlaw and Traditional Country. I dig all the artists you mention. Some other favorites of mine include: Ray Price, particularly love Night Life which is sort of a honky tonk concept record. Buck Owens and His Buckaroos - I've Got a Tiger by the Tail is a good one to start with. Gary Stewart - A great 2-fer CD of his is Out of Hand/Your Place or Mine.
