  1. ..... Merry Clayton - Merry Clayton Gil Scott-Heron - I'm New Here
  2. I listened to his new one the other day, some good songs and nice production on there for sure. Will definitely be giving it more spins. I'll have to backtrack and listen to his other ones too. NP: Sharon Van Etten - Epic
  3. We need some Larry Graham up in this joint. He does the same riff for most of the song, but when it's this good you don't mind. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BF24CaUrNSI
  4. I have a Korg M1 that I got in the early 90s that is still great, but was thinking of getting another keyboard to add to the arsenal. I'm looking for one with realistic sounding B3, piano, horn and string patches as well as a good selection of other instrument patches. Anyone have any recommendations?
  5. I'm in Canada so I might have been watching it on CTV or Global instead of CNN. Can't be certain after all these years. I do recall watching a pre-launch program then the launch, then the confusion...
  6. I'm a Super Furries fan but I haven't delved too much into Gruff's solo releases yet, though I do like what I've heard. I heard a track off the new one last week that sounded promising. I downloaded the album to check out, will give it a whirl later on. How does this new one stack up to his others by the way? NP: Robert Wilkins - The Original Rolling Stone
  7. Agreed. "Diver Down" was the only so-so album in the Roth era. "1984" got them back on track and then it was over.
  8. I find that bands with multiple songwriters, the best work usually occurs with the band rather than solo. Something about the inspiration and competition within a band with more than one songwriter that brings out the best work in people.
  9. I was in grade 10 or 11 at the time. I didn't go to school that day, can't recall if it was a sick day or a school holiday, but I do remember watching the launch live on CNN. That was probably the biggest news story I'd seen up to that point.
  10. It's pretty great. I bought it when Rhino Handmade was having their big sale in December. NP:
  11. Ain't it the truth. Damn that non-functioning [iNFO] tab on the Wilcoworld site.
  12. The Beatles Jimi Hendrix (only counting the ones made while he was alive) Nick Drake (same as above) Big Star (mach 1) Ones that come pretty close: Silver Jews Drive-By Truckers Warren Zevon Alejandro Escovedo Led Zeppelin CCR Tom Waits Minutemen Mission of Burma Pavement Talking Heads The Faces Randy Newman (excluding soundtracks)
  13. I'm with the last 3 posters regarding Steven Tyler. I decided to check out this season of American Idol because of Tyler. If it wasn't for him the show would be intolerable. He brings much needed humor, an obvious love of music and a deep knowledge of music in all its forms that has always been lacking on this show. He's the first person they've had on the panel that I feel might have a similar record collection to mine. Unfortunately a lot of the contestants and song choices--with a few exceptions--are not all that inspiring. Kudos to the girl that chose a Donny Hathaway song, good to see s
  14. .... Percy Sledge - The Atlantic Recordings Sly & The Family Stone - Dance to the Music
  15. I guess I'll finally have a chance to see a Jeff solo show.
  16. ..... Freddy King - The Very Best of Freddy King, Vol. 1 The Meters - Rejuvenation
  17. This one is secular, but musically it's funky gospel-soul and the lyrics are probably acceptable for church, just need to change the "lover" line to "sweetheart" or some such thing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQZNkzP4kYw
  18. I picked up my Eastwood baritone today: So far so good. The set-up and appearance of the guitar is very good. I'm loving the deep tones; it's already inspired 2 new songs.
  19. It goes for $349 and you have three choices for colors: red, black, or metallic blue. I think I'm leaning towards the metallic blue. You can check these out along with all the other Eastwood instruments here (some cool stuff there): http://www.eastwoodguitars.com/
  20. I've been wanting to get a baritone guitar for a while. They're pretty hard to find these days but I did find a local company (Eastwood) that produces them. I ordered their Sidejack Baritone DLX yesterday: I'll be picking it up tomorrow or Thursday. I also wanted to get one of these from them but the guy said they won't have them in for at least 2-3 months:
