Yeah, his records are densely layered... with other peoples music . I hear a song of his on the radio, it just makes me want to hear the original. As for the stories he tells, I guess I'm just not a fan of hearing a guy blow smoke up his own ass for 3 1/2 minutes. Yawn. This is sort of an offshoot of the Band that you like the 'idea of' rather than actually liking them thread. There's a few that come to mind for me, but one in particular that has never worked for me is Kanye West. I think the guy is one of the most overrated musicians of recent times: he's an average rapper, less than average singer, and most of the good hooks in his songs are samples (Ray Charles, Curtis Mayfield, Steely Dan, Elton John...) It's a lot harder to write the hooks than to take them from someone else. I don't know, I just don't get all the critical praise heaped on the guy. At

You really can't go wrong with anything in her discography. Not only does she have an amazing voice, she's one hell of a songwriter. I love all her records, particular these ones: 1,000 Kisses, Living with Ghosts, Children Running Through, and Impossible Dream. None of these are gospel records, but all are terrific.

^^ Anything Patty does is usually pretty great. I think I've only listened to that one twice since buying it, must really revisit it again.

It's pretty effin' great. Lots of fantastic lo-fi, raw gospel-soul and blues throughout. I bought it a few months back at my favourite music store for $16.99 (Canadian). Pretty good price considering this is a 3-CD set.

To be fair, Sid Vicious was one of the least talented guys to ever emerge from the Punk scene. The guy was totally useless and overrated.

Yes, let's keep this thread going. Another artist I forgot to mention is Ronee Blakley. I became a fan of hers aftering seeing her in the Altman film "Nashville." I think she only ever released 2 or 3 records, this one is definitely worth getting: Her follow up record "Welcome" has some great moments too.

If the music is good I can overlook the posturing and sartorial choices of a band. And I agree with cryptique, whether you're looking at the L.A., N.Y.C., or U.K. Punk scenes, there was some posturing/image fostering happening on both sides of the Atlantic. In the end all those scenes produced some great bands along the way.

SPOILERS AHEAD After last seasons dark ending I had feeling they had to go a bit lighter this time around. I didn't think film actress Stiles would be back for another season, figured they'd have her leaving Dexter in the end. Killing her off would have been too ridiculous considering all of Dexter's previous girlfriends/wife have been killed off. The way the trees, houses and everything else in the neighborhood looks with a fresh blanket of snow covering them. The crisp clean feeling of the air. Their list comes off as an attempt to cover all their demographics, from 12-65: some Drake and Taylor Swift for the teens and tweens; some Plant and Mellencamp for the 30-40+ folks; some Vampire Weekend and Spoon for the college aged crowd; some Kid Rock for the douchey dirtbag crowd. There's some good albums on the list for sure, but this list is way too pandering to be taken seriously.

It's the least original of the AMC shows, and it often treads in familiar waters, but overall I enjoyed season 1. Mind you, I'm a fan of post apocalyptic stories so this stuff is up my alley.
