Wow, that is some good deals. I have about half of their stuff in retail, half in downloaded form. I guess it's time to replace those downloads .

That's a great album. Very hard to find, hopefully it gets reissued some day.

Now I can't get "Leaning, Leaning..." out of my head.

Cool! That thread got me pulling out some of my country discs over the weekend and I have a feeling this will spill over into the next few weeks. Speaking of great country records, actually more a Country/Baroque Pop/Ennio Morricone affair I suppose: NP:

^ Nice pick mjpuczko. I was talking that one up in the Country thread the other day. NP:

In most cases their releases are the definitive editions for a film. A few of their early releases weren't always the best, some had issues with interlacing ("The Harder They Come" springs to mind) and quite a few were non-anamorphic widescreen releases. But those issues are a thing of the past and thankfully a lot of those so-so earlier releases have been reissued in the past year or so. What makes them different than most others is the care they put into each release. First off their transfers are usually quite sharp and clean, with good bitrates and a good color balance (They often confer

I don't know about Wilco, but this kid has Jandek down pretty good.

Yeah, same here. Considering Big Stars recent history, one really has to be careful how they title threads. But yeah, Jody's drumming has always complimented the music quite nicely, and some of the fills on their records are just perfect.

Isn't that pretty much the same thing people going to the cinema do? 2 tickets for the movies is generally more than a new DVD. I've bought quite a few DVDs of films I've never seen before. Usually they're films that can't be found at rental stores that I've wanted to see. Often they're from directors I have had good experiences with in the past. And if that DVD happens to be issued by someone like Criterion it's a win-win.

Cool! I'm looking forward to that one.

Dangerous indeed, but also a great way to discover some new stuff to lighten the wallet. I made some suggestions in that gospel thread, sorry if I cost you any money Louie .

Sounds very promising. I'm going to have to check this one out. Agreed. Hank is such a giant, his influence goes way beyond country music artists. I don't think there's many important songwriters of the past 50 years that don't have an affinity for ol' Hank.

I mentioned Joe Ely earlier but forget to mention this great record: Speaking of the Flatlanders, Jimmie Dale Gilmore has some records worth getting (After Awhile being one of them.) I've never delved into Butch Hancock's solo stuff, not sure what that's like. pmancini100 mentioned him in his initial post which is why I steered clear of him. But yeah, he's the man, every country fan needs to check him out.

Not a big Mangione fan, but I've always had a soft spot for this one (and the guitarist on this one smokes): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7dg8vRDM68

Here's a few from Country's fringes that I've gotten into recently (particularly dig Dee Mullins and his psychedelic touches): ... Some good newer country artists have been mentioned such as Hayes Carll. I'll add Laura Cantrell to the list (love her retro sound.) Probably not needed to be mentioned, but Lucinda Williams is definitely worth checking out. I also dig some of Kelly Willis' records. Though I don't consider her strictly country, I do love some of those 60s-70s Bobbie Gentry records. Nanci Griffith is another one that isn't strictly country that has released some great co

I'm a pretty big fan, particularly of Honky Tonk, Outlaw and Traditional Country. I dig all the artists you mention. Some other favorites of mine include: Ray Price, particularly love Night Life which is sort of a honky tonk concept record. Buck Owens and His Buckaroos - I've Got a Tiger by the Tail is a good one to start with. Gary Stewart - A great 2-fer CD of his is Out of Hand/Your Place or Mine. You can't go wrong with either of those records. Classics! Joe Ely - Honky Tonk Masquerade. Another must have. Marty Robbins - Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs. Great stuff! Por
