Me too. I actually checked in now just to see how many people had commented about the episode . When did Wilco become well known enough to get referenced in a joke? I guess the writers figured a good chunk of their audience is hipster types that would get it (and they're probably right.)

Yeah, very eclectic record. I love the rough lo-fi asethetic of it and how he manages to dabble in so many genres--Hip-Hop, R&B, Rock, Soul--and still make it all work.

I really dig that record, still come back to it every so often. I sure wish he'd put something else out, it's been 8 years. I see he released a free single earlier in the year: http://codychesnutt.bandcamp.com/

Billy Preston on the "Let It Be" record.

I was wondering why the odd choices for Polanski and Cassevettes, now it makes sense . I would add a few more to the list: Whit Stillman's "Metropolitan" Noah Baumbach's "Kicking and Screaming" Peter Bogdanovich's "Targets"

Sorry Todd, I didn't like that one at all. For current shows: Mad Men True Blood http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWaFD4S00mc

They seem to be setting him up to be one. I don't know, it seems to me like they're just rehashing old storylines with new faces. Like ih8music said, it's "Doakes 2.0." As much as I don't like Quinn, I really was hoping for something different, we'll see how things play out.

I'm always curious to hear new Wilco and Radiohead. The last R.E.M. record I really liked was "New Adventures in Hi-Fi" which came out in 1996. I still check out their new ones but I come to them with very little excitement or anticipation.

You obviously need to see more films Todd, you missed some definite classics there . I must say the list is a bit confounding. There's some films in there I wouldn't put in my top 1000 let alone top 100. It's hard to take a list seriously that doesn't have a single Altman film in it. C'mon, where's Nashville, M*A*S*H, The Player, Short Cuts...? I'd put any of those films over quite a few of the selections here.

This has the complete broadcasts of each Sullivan Show the Beatles appeared on including the ads which is kinda cool. I can just imagine the kids at home getting impatient as they sit through a magician, Frank Gorshin, the cast of Oliver (with a young Davy Jones), waiting for The Beatles to reappear.

I'm a sucker for these Classic Album docs.

^ That Clarence video wouldn't play for me, some copyright message popped up. Expanding the scope of this thread even more, here's some 60s R&B from the wonderful Barbara Lynn: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAnSyQA_fT4

A thread where you recommend NEW music to PopTodd
GtrPlyr replied to PopTodd's topic in Someone Else's Song
Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings - Great band and singer that have their feet firmly planted in the old Soul and Funk. -
That sounds good to me . I think it's Friends of Dean Martinez (which would actually be FODM)

A few months back I picked up Alice Clark's "The Complete Studio Recordings 1968-1972," great stuff! I've been listening to the Fugi disc Mary, Don't Take Me On No Bad Trip quite a bit lately. If you're into funk/psychedelic-soul music I highly recommend it. Lots of great songs including the original version of "I'd Rather Be a Blind Man" that Etta James remade as "I'd Rather Go Blind." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZ3y0p9uOTU

I have a few Tex discs and a Patterson comp that's pretty great, so yes . William Bell is another one that did some great records and wrote some incredible songs. He still sounds pretty good too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwc3-WZ1OWs
