This went way beyond anything I could imagine Leno being comfortable with. It wasn't some fun ribbing ala the Jack Benny Show, this was serious jabs full of vitriol. Jay looked bad in the segment, and not in a we're all laughing with you way either. If he agreed to it he's a fool as that segment only benefited Kimmel and Conan.
-
Damn! I love that self-titled Bobby Charles record; a true classic.
-
I don't get that impression at all. I just think Jay underestimated how far Jimmy would go with these questions. He probably thought Kimmel would make a few light and playful jokes, but nothing that would make Jay look bad, because after all, he is a guest on Jay's show and nobody would dare take him to task on his own show... how wrong he was.

That was some great TV there, verging on the uncomfortable (in a good way.) Kudos to Kimmel for having the guts to do that.

I think any time other than 11:35 p.m. for the Tonight Show will be the kiss of death for it in the ratings, regardless of who is hosting. A lot of people don't want to stay up until 1:05 a.m. and I think a lot of fans will just slide on over to Letterman instead. With all the media attention right now, I think it would be in NBC's best interest to keep Conan at 11:35. I'm sure his ratings have increased this week already. Reshuffling all their late show time-slots is going to adversely effect the ratings of all the shows. Why would you do that to accommodate one person (Leno)? Towards the end

Roky Erickson backed by Okkervil River on his new album!
GtrPlyr replied to PopTodd's topic in Someone Else's Song
Roky turned in a pretty great set for the taping of A.C.L. that aired a month ago. He seems to be in pretty good spirits and appears to be in the best condition he's been in ages. I'm not sure that Okkervil River is a band well suited to Roky's style of music, but I'll be checking it out regardless. -
That was one of the funnier uses of that clip I've seen .

I quite liked his previous book "Kick Me: Adventures in Adolescence." I'm about halfway through and so far I'd say this is as equally funny and honest--to a sometimes painful degree--as the first one.

Glad to see Jim's working on a new one... and with the Weakerthans, well that's a great bonus. I saw Jim open for them ages ago, good show!

My friend in Brazil sent me the Tom Ze DVD as a late Christmas gift. Just got it today . She also told me she's sending me this DVD: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uz8tUA-qMdk I didn't even know it existed. As a big Caetano fan I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Damn, that was a big oversight on my part, though to be fair I wasn't going for a comprehensive list. Here's a few more that shouldn't be ignored either: Kiss Me on the Bus Little Mascara Never Mind If Only You Were Lonely Within' Your Reach Portland Talent Show Waitress in the Sky

If you like "Folker" I'd recommend Stereo/Mono next. Then Come Feel Me Tremble and 49:00. I quite like the introspective Suicainegratification too; 14 Songs and Eventually also have some gems. For the Replacements stuff, Let It Be, Tim, Pleased to Meet Me and Hootenanny are good starts (roughly in that order.) After that, go for the earlier albums if you're more Punk inclined, or the latter if you prefer singer-songwriter rock. As for favorite songs, there's too many to list all, but here's a few off the top of the old noggin: Solo: It's a Wonderful Lie Even Here We Are As Far As I Know

You beat me to it. Jandek would probably take the title for the past few decades.

^ I'd been avoiding that one, unfortunately I brokedown today. If this song were an equation it might look like this: 2 d-bags + 1 injured jungle cat + autotune = 4 mins. of pure hell

Revisiting some old favorites. Finished the first 2, now onto the "The Good, the Bad..."

People really should list names and titles when it isn't on the artwork... Anyway, the one in question is "Boston Spaceships - Zero to 99."

I've always had a soft spot for that song too. (Nelly's a real cutie, you're a lucky guy .)
